City votes down cold medicine prescription ordinance

The Dayton City Council voted down an ordinance that would have mandated a prescription to obtain ephedrine or pseudoephedrine on Monday at the council’s January meeting. Municipalities across the state have been passing ordinances to mandate prescriptions for allergy and cold medicines containing the key ingredients needed to make methamphetamine. However, State Attorney General Robert E. Cooper Jr. issued an opinion in December saying the such laws should remain in the hands of the General Assembly rather than the municipalities.
