Just like the 1991 Atlanta Braves, the Rhea County High School Eagles’ football team ascended from ‘worst to first’ in just one season and did so in very convincing fashion, running the gauntlet of District 6-AAA teams and non-district foes as well.
For the Eagles’ efforts this year, they racked up 19 district awards at the District 6-AAA banquet held in Cookeville on Sunday, Dec. 8.
Not only did the Rhea bunch claim a district championship with an unblemished conference record, but boasted a 9-1 regular season mark and an appearance in the second round of the playoffs and finished with a 10-2 record, which was a far cry from the 2-8 2012 season and a 1-9 record in 2011.
