Round one is in the books and the Rhea County High School
Eagles' football team has advanced to the second round of the TSSAA playoffs with a 35-24 win over
the Lenoir City Panthers at Eagle Stadium on Friday.
The Eagles scored in the first three
minutes of the game and looked as though it was going to be a rout early but the Panthers had other
plans, as they kept pace with the Eagles and even led 24-21 at the half.
In a first half
offensive shootout that no one expected, the Eagles hunkered down, made the halftime adjustments and
shut down the Panthers with four defensive stops in the second half, including a fourth down stop at
midfield late in the third quarter and an interception by Rhea linebacker Holden Doss with 2:47 left
in the game to help secure the win for the Eagles.
The Eagles improved to 10-1 and will host
the Cleveland Blue Raiders on Friday, Nov. 15, for second round playoff action at Eagle Stadium.
Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
