The Rhea County High School Eagles' passed the biggest test of
the season Friday, as they triumphed 27-3 over the reigning District 6-AAA champs and the only
other undefeated district team, the Cookeville Cavaliers.
After a scoreless first quarter,
and a 7-3 Rhea advantage at the half, the Eagles broke the game open in the third quarter when
Bryce Keylon scored on a 42-yard interception return to give the Eagles a 14-3 lead at the end of
the third quarter.
From that point on, the Rhea offense and defense jointly took control of
the game, shutting down Cookeville and tacking on two more fourth quarter touchdowns for the
crucial district win, taking over sole possession of first place in District 6-AAA. The Eagles
improve to 5-1 and 3-0 in the district.
