Rhea 4-H competes in Eastern Region Meat Evaluation Contest
Rhea County 4-H members participated in the Eastern Region 4-H Meat Evaluation Contest on Saturday, Aug. 17, at the Rhea County Fair. The first Saturday of The Tennessee Valley Fair is always reserved for the Eastern Region 4-H judging contests. Rhea County 4-Her’s competed against teams from all over East Tennessee in the meat evaluation competition.
The Senior High team made up of Josh Lamb, Cole Wilson, Jason Schalk, Jonathon Schalk and Randy Reed placed third overall with Lamb placing seventh as Overall High Individual. The Senior High team will be competing at the State 4-H Meat Evaluation contest next June at UT Knoxville.
The Junior High individuals that participated included Georgia Sutton, Melissa Stringfellow, Eli Harris, Sarah Cornett, Leslie Kaylor, Billy Butcher and Kyle Carr. Junior High Team A placed first overall and the team was made up of Carr, Sutton, Butcher and Stringfellow. Carr placed third, Sutton placed second and Stringfellow placed sixth in the Overall High Individual category. The Junior High Team B placed fourth overall and team members included Harris, Cornett and Kaylor. Cornett took home eighth place in the Overall High Individual category.
