As we approach the celebration for the Scopes Trial, it is hard to believe that it has been 88 years since that event happened! My family, like most around Dayton, had an association with the events surrounding the trial. Dr. Walter F. Thomison, my great-grandfather, was the attending physician when William Jennings Bryan died and signed his death certificate. My grandmother, Clara Thomison Brown, and her sister, Maude Thomison, walked from their home in South Dayton (Magnolia House) each day to view the proceedings of the trial. Clara went to keep Maude company; however, Maude would find some memories that would last a lifetime.
