Members of the Rhea County Commission tabled a proposal that would allow the Rhea Medical Center board to negotiate the lease of the old hospital at a regular monthly commission meeting on Thursday.
Both county and hospital officials have said in the past weeks that they are currently in negotiations with the same company that leased houses in south Dayton for use as mental health care facilities.
However, several residents who live near the building on the corner of Rhea County Highway and Walnut Grove Church Road opposed the leasing of the old hospital to Generations/Gaither.
