Rhea County Volunteers in Medicine Clinic — The Rhea County Volunteers In Medicine (VIM) Clinic is a free medical clinic for the uninsured residents of Rhea County. Blood Assurance Urgent Need — Blood Assurance is in urgent need for blood donors, especially those with blood type O Negative. Rhea Countians are encouraged to attend one of the upcoming blood drives in Dayton. The Blood Assurance Blood Mobile will be at FB Bank on Tuesday, July 2, from 1:45 to 5:25 p.m. and at Wal-Mart on Monday, July 8, from noon to 5:30 p.m.

“In Her Shoes” Domestic Violence Program (6/20) — The Rhea County Domestic Violence Council is partnering with First Baptist Church, Dayton to present “In Her Shoes” on Thursday, June 20, at First Baptist Church, Dayton, located at 231 Third Ave. Six 90-minute sessions will be available throughout the day at 8:30 a.m., 10:30 a.m., 12:30 p.m., 2:30 p.m., 4:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. “In Her Shoes” is a hand-on simulation of the struggles faced by the victims of domestic violence.
Fly-In, Drive-In Breakfast (6/22) — The Civil Air Patrol will host a breakfast from 8 to 11 a.m. at the Mark Anton Municipal Airport on Saturday, June 22. The cost for the all-you-can-eat breakfast is $6 for adults and $3 for children under 10. The event will be held rain or shine.
Sharp-Thurman Family Reunion (6/22) — The descendents of John and Elizabeth Sharp Thurman of Morgantown will hold a family reunion on Saturday, June 22, beginning at 4 p.m. at the pavillion in Point Park in Dayton. Spring City Shake the Lake Independence Day Celebration (7/6) — Spring City will hold their annual “Shake the Lake” Independence Day celebration at Veteran’s Park on Saturday, July 6. The all-day event will start with registration for the Mr. & Miss Firecracker Pageant at 9 a.m. The pageant will include five age categories for boys and girls from newborn to eight-years-old. The pageant will begin at 10 a.m. with the Baby Miss Firecracker category and will continue until the final Mister Firecracker category begins at 12:15 p.m. The afternoon’s events will begin with registration for the watermelon and pickle eating contests at 12 p.m. with the pickle eating contest beginning at 1 p.m. followed by the watermelon eating contest at 1:30 p.m. Karaoke will begin at 2 p.m. followed by sign-ups for the Diaper Derby, Teddy Bear Run and Duck Race at 3 p.m. The Diaper Derby will begin at 4 p.m. followed by the Teddy Bear Run at 4:15 p.m. and the Duck Race at 5 p.m. The events continue into the evening as live band music continues with Corey Rose and Evervigilant performing until dark when fireworks will light the night sky to conclude to festivities.
