Sequatchie Valley Head Start Accepting Applications — The Sequatchie Valley Head Start is currently accepting children’s applications for the 2013-2014 school year.  Head Start is a comprehensive preschool program for eligible three and four-year old children.  Parents interested in enrolling their children should bring income verification, the child’s birth certificate, immunization records, health insurance information and applicable disability information.  For more information, call the Dayton center at 423-775-7723 or the Spring City center at 423-365-7031.

Fly-In, Drive-In Breakfast (3/23) —  The Civil Air Patrol will host a breakfast from 8 to 11 a.m. at the Mark Anton Municipal Airport on Saturday, March 23. The all-you-can-eat cost is $6 for adults and $3 for children under 10. The event will be held rain or shine.

United Daughters of the Confederacy Meeting (3/23) — The John Quincy Adams Shaver Chapter of United Daughters of the Confederacy will meet at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 23, in Dayton.  Contact Nancy Herhold for the location of the meeting at (423) 365-0609 or nkhdar@att.net.

Spring City Easter Egg Hunt (3/23) — Spring City Parks and Recreation will host an Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday, March 23, beginning at noon with the egg hunt for children ages baby to two-years-old.  The egg hunt for children of other age groups will follow:  12:10 p.m. — 3 to 4-years-old, 12:20 p.m. — 5 to 6-years-old, 12:30 p.m. — 7 to 8-years-old and 12:40 p.m. — 9 to 10-years-old.  

Eric Layne Memorial Open Car Show (3/23) — The Second Annual Open Car Show in memory of Eric Layne will be held on Saturday, March 23, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.  in the parking lot of Robinson’s Manufacturing Company.  Trophies, dash plaques, food, music and door prizes will be available.  Tickets will be sold for  a reproduction of an antique gas globe lamp and a Nine West pocket book.  Proceeds will go to the ALS Association (Lou Gehrig’s Disease).

‘Think Spring’ Art Exhibit at ArtCrafters (3/23) —  The Dayton Arts League ‘Think Spring’ art exhibit will be on display through March 30 at ArtCrafters in downtown Dayton.  There are over 40 pieces of art on exhibit.  A Meet the Artists Reception will be held on Saturday, March 23, from 1 to 3 p.m. with refreshments being served.

“Front Page News” Scopes Festival Play Auditions (3/23 & 24) — Auditions will be held on March 23 and 24 between 2 and 4 p.m.  in the circuit court courtroom of the Rhea County Courthouse for all roles in the play, “Front Page News” which will be performed for the first time during the 2013 Scopes Trial Festival which will be held July 19 and 20.  Roles available include attorneys William Jennings Bryan, Clarence Darrow and District Attorney General Tom Stewart, to the supporting cast of lawyers, witnesses, town officials and reporters.  Rehearsals will begin in June.  Actors with questions about the rehearsals may contact Ms. Robbins by phone

RCHS Theater Department Presents “Snow White in the 70’s” (3/23 & 24) — The Rhea County High School Theater Department will present the play “Snow White in the 70’s” on Saturday, March 23, and Sunday, March 24, at 7 p.m. at the RCHS Little Theatre.  Tickets are $5 for adults, $2 for students and free for children under 6-years-old.  (Warning: strobe lights will be used.)

Walden’s Ridge Community Center Dinner & Meeting (3/26) — The Walden’s Ridge Community Center will host a pot-luck dinner and informative community meeting on Tuesday, June 26, at 6 p.m.  Everyone is welcome to attend.

Abstinence Education Informational Meeting (3/26) — The Edge abstinence education program is offering a free informational meeting for parents of Rhea County teens on Tuesday, March 26, at 5:30 p.m. at the Women’s Care Center. The workshop will discuss the public school program offered in the county, which deals with making healthy choices regarding avoiding alcohol, drugs and sexual activity.  For more information, contact Andrea at 775-0019.

Diabetic/Carb Class at Rhea Medical Center (3/27) — A Diabetic/Carb Class will be held at Rhea Medical Center on Wednesday, March 27, at 4 p.m. in the RMC Café This is a free educational class. Call 775-8636 for more information.

Community Easter Egg Hunt at Spring City Care and Rehab (3/30) — Spring City Care and Rehab will host a community egg hunt on Saturday, March 30, at 10 a.m.  There will be three age groups 2-4, 5-8 and 9-12. There will be two prize eggs for each group and prizes for the boy and girl who collects the most eggs. There will also be a bake sale.  Easter cakes, brownies or cookies will be for sale at this time.  A cookbook that the residents have put together will also be on sale for $10.

Rhea County Republican Party Meeting (4/6) —  The Rhea County Republican Party will hold their monthly meeting on Thursday, April 4, beginning at 7 p.m. at the Rhea County Republican Party Headquarters, located at 1359 Railroad St. in Dayton.  The Executive Committee will not meet prior to the regular meeting.

Frazier Volunteer Fire Department Chili/Hot Dog Meal and Auction Fundraiser (4/6) — The Frazier Volunteer Fire Department will host their annual Chili/Hot Dog meal and auction on Saturday, April 6, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Frazier Elementary School.  Auction items, cakes, pies and/or monetary donations are needed.  Fore more information, contact Linda Shaver or any member of the Frazier Fire Department.

Looking Back Spring 2013 Antique Tractor Show (4/6) —  The Looking Back Spring 2013 Antique Tractor Show will be held at the Grandview Community Center on Wassom Memorial Hwy. atop Grandview Mountain on Saturday, April 6, from  9 a.m. to 4 p.m.  A swap meet, craft vendors and live music will be available.  Admission is free.  For more information, call 423-365-2683 or 423-298-7981.

Spring City American Legion Post 203 Meeting (4/18) — Spring City American Legion Post 203 will have their regular monthly meeting on Thursday, April 18, beginning at 6:30 p.m. with a covered dish dinner.  Post 203 meets on the third Thursday of each month.  Call 423-667-5060 for more information.

Benefit Chili Lunch and Auction for Dedra Reed Crass (4/20) — A benefit chili lunch and auction is being organized for Dedra Reed Crass who has been diagnosed with breast cancer.   The benefit is scheduled for Saturday, April 20 beginning at 11 a.m. at the Grandview Community Center.  Donations of auction items and monetary contribution will be welcomed and appreciated.  Contact Kelly Lee at 280-8534 for more information or to make a donation.

Spring City Christian Art Guild Forming (4/21) —  The Spring City Christian Art Guild will  hold their initial meeting on Sunday, April 21 from 2 to 4 p.m. at Veteran’s Park.  Those interested in attending are encouraged to bring their sketch pads to the meeting.  For more information, call 423-533-2408.

Father-Son Retreat at Fort Bluff Camp (4/26 & 27) —  Fort Bluff Camp on Ogden Rd. will host a Father-Son Retreat on Friday, April 26 and Saturday, April 27.  The retreat is open to fathers and sons over 10 years of age and includes meals, lodging, seminiars and activities.  Cost of the event is $100 for father and  one son with an additional $25 for each additional son.  Visit www.fortbluff.org or contact Fort Bluff Camp at 1-800-251-4027 or info@fbc-naca.org for more information.  

Rhea Family YMCA Healthy Kids Day (4/27) – The Rhea Family YMCA will host a Healthy Kids Day on Saturday, April 27, This is a free community event that will help families find fun through active play and educational opportunities to improve health and well-being.  Healthy Kids Day encourages kids and parents to commit to keeping the body and mind active now and throughout the summer.  Contact the YMCA at 423-775-5859 for more information.
