Benefit Auction for JoJo Johnson (3/9) —  A benefit auction for Larry Joe “JoJo” Johnson Jr. will be held at Point Park in Dayton on Saturday, March 9, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.  Proceeds will go towards Johnson’s medical expenses following a major stroke which left him paralyzed on his right side.  The benefit will include hamburger, hot dogs, snack items cold drinks, live music and face painting for the children.

Dr. Suess Birthday Party at Graysville Public Library (3/9) — The Graysville Public Library will host a Dr. Suess Birthday Party on Saturday March 9 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.  The party will begin with a Green Eggs and Ham Breakfast at 11 a.m. and will followed by games, stories, crafts, prizes and cake and ice cream.  For more information, call the library at 775-0966.

Watts Bar Yacht Club Meeting (3/9) — Watts Bar Yacht Club will meet at Lakeside/Whites Creek Marina on Saturday, March 9, beginning with a social at 4 p.m. followed by the club meeting at 5 p.m.  Training classes are held at Lakeside Marina every other Thursday evening  starting at 5:30 p.m. for all members.  For questions about joining the club or their classes, contact Vance Winstead at 423-619-4749 or Gary Venice at 423-508-5025.

TVT Presents ‘Pay The Reckoning’ Irish Band (3/9) — The Tennessee Valley Theatre in Spring City will host a performance by the Irish band Pay The Reckoning on Saturday, March 9, at 7:30 p.m.  Cost of the concert is $10.  Pay the Reckoning are a group of instrumentalists from Chattanooga who perform authentic traditional Irish dance melodies on the Wooden Flute, Tin Whistle, the Irish Bouzouki, Guitar, and Bodhrán as well as sing rousing Irish folk songs to elicit an experience of revelry and merriment no less convivial than any public house on the Emerald Isle.  For reservations, call 365-PLAY or www.tennesseevalleytheatre.com.   This performance is made possible in part through a grant from the Tennessee Arts Commission.

Walden’s Ridge CERT Breakfast Fundraiser (3/9) — The Walden’s Ridge Community Emergency Response Team (C.E.R.T.) is hosting a Country Breakfast at 8 a.m. on Saturday, March 9, at the Walden’s Ridge Community Center.  The breakfast is $5 for adults and includes coffee, orange juice, bacon or sausage, grits, scrambled eggs, biscuit, gravy and hash browns.  All proceeds go directly towards much needed equipment in preparation for helping our community in the upcoming tornado season!  For more information contact the Walden’s Ridge CERT at wrcc.cert@yahoo.com.

Rhea County Homeland Security Fundraiser (3/9) — The Rhea County Sheriff’s Department’s Homeland Security Team will hold a fundraiser on Saturday, March 9, at the Rhea County Welcome Center on Main Street in Dayton. The fundraiser begins at 7 a.m. with a flea market and includes a chili and hot dog lunch and a silent auction.  A drawing will be held for a La-Z-Boy chair and a chain saw.  For more information, call Jim at 423-255-2200.

Watts Bar TVA Retirees Meeting (3/11) — The Watts Bar TVA Retirees will meet at the Spring City Meeting Hall on Monday, March 11 at 10:30 a.m.  A speaker from Retirement Services in Knoxville will be in attendance.  A catered lunch will be available for $7.  Call 365-9048 by March 8 to make reservations or for more information.

TVT Auditions for Twinderella Musical (3/11 & 12) — The Tennessee Valley Theatre will hold auditions for the upcoming production of the musical Twinderella on Monday, Mar. 11, and Tuesday, Mar. 11, from 3 to 6 p.m.  Multiple roles are available for male and female actors between the ages of 10 to 100.  Not all roles require  solo-level singing ability.  For more information, contact the director, Karen Slikker at 423-834-2499 or ArtWorks@volstate.net.

Student Concert at Spring City Middle School (3/14) — A musical concert featuring the students of Spring City Middle School will be held Thursday, March 14, beginning at 7 p.m.  The concert will include performances by the the Spring City Middle School Band, the Spring City Middle School Chorus and the Spring City Elementary School 5th-grade beginning band.

Spring City Scholarship Pageant Application Deadline (3/14) — The 2013 Spring City Scholarship Pageant is scheduled for Saturday, March 23, at the Spring City United Methodist Church Life Center.  The pageant is open to girls from ages birth to 19-years-old.  Applications may be picked up at the Spring City Chamber of Commerce office or online at www.springcitychamberofcommerce.com.  Entry forms along a $40 entry fee for each application must be submitted by 4 p.m. on March 15.

Rhea-Craig Chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution Meeting (3/14) — The Rhea-Craig Chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution will meet at 3 p.m. on Thursday, March 14, at the Sweetwater Library in downtown Sweetwater, Tenn.  The program for the meeting will be presented by the meeting’s hostess, Chris Carpenter.  Those interested in the DAR is encouraged to attend.

Book Discussion at Clyde W. Roddy Library (3/19) — The Clyde W. Roddy Public Library in Dayton will hold a book discussion for “The Fault in Our Stars” by John Green on Tuesday, March 19, from 6  to 8 p.m. Copies of the book are available for check out at the library.  Call the library at 775-8406 for more information.

Spring City American Legion Post 203 Meeting (3/21) — Spring City American Legion Post 203 will have their regular monthly meeting on Thursday, March 21, beginning at 6:30 p.m. with a covered dish dinner.  Post 203 meets on the third Thursday of each month.  Call 423-667-5060 for more information.

Sacred Music Concert at Bryan College (3/22) — The Bryan Chorale, Chamber Singers and Women’s Chorus will present a concert of sacred music March 22 in Rudd Auditorium on the campus of Bryan College.   This free concert will begin at 7:30 p.m.   Dr. David Luther will lead the Chorale and Chamber singers and Ms. Kimberly Keck will direct the Women’s Chorus in numbers from the classical, contemporary and spiritual literature.

Fly-In, Drive-In Breakfast (3/23) —  The Civil Air Patrol will host a breakfast from 8 to 11 a.m. at the Mark Anton Municipal Airport on Saturday, March 23. The all-you-can-eat cost is $6 for adults and $3 for children under 10. The event will be held rain or shine.

Diabetic/Carb Class at Rhea Medical Center (3/27) — A Diabetic/Carb Class will be held at Rhea Medical Center on Wednesday, March 27 at 4 p.m. in the RMC Café This is a free educational class. Call 775-8636 for more information.

Father-Son Retreat at Fort Bluff Camp (4/26 & 27) —  Fort Bluff Camp on Ogden Rd. will host a Father-Son Retreat on Friday, April 26 and Saturday, April 27.  The retreat is open to fathers and sons over 10 years of age and includes meals, lodging, seminiars and activities.  Cost of the event is $100 for father and  one son with an additional $25 for each additional son.  Visit www.fortbluff.org or contact Fort Bluff Camp at 1-800-251-4027 or info@fbc-naca.org for more information.  

Rhea Family YMCA Seeks Health Agencies and  Wellness Organizations to Attend Healthy Kids Day (4/27) – The Rhea Family YMCA will host a Healthy Kids Day on Saturday, April 27, This is a free community event that will help families find fun through active play and educational opportunities to improve health and well-being.  Healthy Kids Day encourages kids and parents to commit to keeping the body and mind active now and throughout the summer.  Contact the YMCA at 423-775-5859 for more information.
