The dreams, or visions, recorded in the Old Testament are not to be confused with ordinary dreams as we know them. They were the means by which God communicated with people of His choice, such as Joseph, Daniel, Ezekiel, and others before the Bible was written. Now God has spoken once for all through His Son, Jesus, the living Word [Hebrews 1:1; John 1:1, 14]. Jesus is God’s last word to man. His message is for these last days, not some future last days.
In the Old Testament God’s primary concern was with national Israel, and the visions which God revealed to the prophets had to do with its origin, development, history, and consummation. Their message was for their times and our times, not some time in the still distant future.
