Walden’s Ridge CERT Seeks Utility Trailer — The Walden’s Ridge Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) is looking for an enclosed utility trailer.  Those who wish to sell or donate a utilty trailer to CERT are asked to contact Ed Lawson at 423-244-5460 or wrcc.cert@yahoo.com

Sequatchie Valley Head Start Accepting Applications — The Sequatchie Valley Head Start is currently accepting children’s applications for the 2013-2014 school year.  Head Start is a comprehensive preschool program for eligible three and four-year old children.  Parents interested in enrolling their children should bring income verification, the child’s birth certificate, immunization records, health insurance information and applicable disability information.  For more information, call the Dayton center at 423-775-7723 or the Spring City center at 423-365-7031.

Free Tax Help From IRS VITA in Dayton (2/1 - 4/5) — IRS Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) will fill out and file taxes for free at the Clyde Roddy Library in Dayton every Friday until April 5.  No appointment is needed.  Call 423-413-2339 for more information.

Free Tax Help From VITA in Spring City (2/1 - 4/12) — Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) will provide free tax help to the elderly, handicapped and low income every Friday until April 12 at the old SouthEast Bank building in Spring City, between 1 and 5 p.m.  Those interested are asked to bring a copy of last year’s tax return and other pertinent tax information.  For more information, call SouthEast Bank and ask for Lacy at 365-0221.

TVT Presents Story of Jack and John (2/22-24) — The Tennessee Valley Theatre will hold a production of the two-man play The Story of Jack and John on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 22 and 23, at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, Feb. 24, at 4 p.m.  The Story of Jack and John is written and performed by Aaron Gaines and Rhea County native Quentin McCuiston.

Fly-In, Drive-In Breakfast (2/23) —  The Civil Air Patrol will host a breakfast from 8 to 11 a.m. at the Mark Anton Municipal Airport on Saturday, Feb. 23. The all-you-can-eat cost is $6 for adults and $3 for children under 10. The event will be held rain or shine.

United Daughters of the Confederacy Meeting (2/23) —  The John Quincy Adams Shaver Chapter of United Daughters of the Confederacy will meet at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 23, in Dayton.  Please contact Nancy Herhold for the location of the meeting at  365-0609 or nkhdar@att.net.

Retirement Reception for Barbara Whittaker (2/24) — A retirement reception will be held for Barbara Whittaker on Sunday, Feb. 24, from 2 to 4 p.m. in the cafeteria of Spring City Middle School.  Mrs. Whittaker will be honored for over 30 years of service to the Rhea County school system.

Diabetic/Carb Counting Class at Rhea Medical Center (2/27) — A Diabetic/Carb Counting Class will be held at Rhea Medical Center on Wednesday, Feb. 27, at 4 p.m. in the RMC Café. This is a free educational class. Call 775-8636 for more information.

Watts Bar Yacht Club Boating Information Class (2/28) — The Watts Bar Yacht Club will hold a Boating Information Class titled "Nuts about Knots" on Thursday, Feb. 28, in their Club Room at Lakeside/Whites Creek Marina. Dayton Lodge #512 F&AM Chili Supper Benefit (3/2) — The Dayton Lodge #512 F&AM will hold a benefit Chili Supper on Saturday, March 2, beginning at 4 p.m. at the Dayton Masonic Lodge.  The cost of the supper is $5 or other donation.  Proceeds benefit the Walter Rice Memorial Scholarship Fund and the Lodge #512 Charity Fund.

Benefit Fundraiser for Joey Johnson (3/9) —  A benefit fundraiser for Larry Joe “Joey” Johnson Jr. will be held at Point Park in Dayton on Saturday, March 9, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.  Proceeds will go towards Johnson’s medical expenses following a major stroke which left him paralyzed on his right side.  The benefit will include hamburger, hot dogs, snack items cold drinks, live music and face painting for the children.

TVT Auditions for Twinderella Musical (3/11 & 12) — The Tennessee Valley Theatre will hold auditions for the upcoming production of the musical Twinderella on Monday, Mar. 11, and Tuesday, Mar. 11, from 3 to 6 p.m.  Multiple roles are available for male and female actors between the ages of 10 to 100.  Not all roles require  solo-level singing ability.  For more information, contact the director, Karen Slikker at 423-834-2499 or ArtWorks@volstate.net.

Spring City Scholarship Pageant Application Deadline (3/15) — The 2013 Spring City Scholarship Pageant is scheduled for Saturday, March 23, at the Spring City United Methodist Church Life Center.  The pageant is open to girls from ages birth to 19-years-old.  Applications may be picked up at the Spring City Chamber of Commerce office or online at www.springcitychamberofcommerce.com.  Entry forms along a $40 entry fee for each application must be submitted by 4 p.m. on March 15.

Spring City American Legion Post 203 Meeting (3/21) — Spring City American Legion Post 203 will have their regular monthly meeting on Thursday, March 21, beginning at 6:30 p.m. with a covered dish dinner.  Post 203 meets on the third Thursday of each month.  Call 423-667-5060 for more information.

Rhea Family YMCA Seeks Health Agencies and  Wellness Organizations to Attend Healthy Kids Day (4/27) – The Rhea Family YMCA will host a Healthy Kids Day on Saturday, April 27, This is a free community event that will help families find fun through active play and educational opportunities to improve health and well-being.  Healthy Kids Day encourages kids and parents to commit to keeping the body and mind active now and throughout the summer.  Contact the YMCA at 423-775-5859 for more information.
