Dayton Youth Baseball Coaches Meeting:  Anyone interested in coaching any age group for the upcoming Dayton Youth Baseball season must attend a coaches meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 26, at 6 p.m., in the cafeteria at Rhea Central Elementary School.  Contact Rusty Tipton at 423-618-6033 if you need further information.

Rhea County High School [RCHS] wrestler Daniel Cochran recently wrapped up his season with a record of 41-9 at the fourth round of the TSSAA individual state tournament.  His season highlights included a first-place medal at the Ooltewah Invitational in the 285-pound division, a third-place medal at the Soddy Daisy Showdown at 220 and placed fifth in the Bradley Invitational at 285.  Cochran competed this season in the heavyweight division at only 228 pounds, which is a division that goes up to 285.
The RCHS team earned 22 individual tournament medals this season, including six junior varsity regional and one varsity regional medals.

Eagle Anglers- All students in the Rhea County School system that enjoy fishing are encouraged to see what the Eagle Anglers are all about.  This is their third season and there are 34 student anglers already to fish when the season starts on Feb. 23 at Chickamauga Lake, out of Blue Water RV Resort and Marina in Dayton.   Weigh-in will be promptly at 3 p.m. each week. The entire community is encouraged to come out and support what the Eagle Anglers of Rhea County High School are all about.  For more information contact the sponsor and coach Brian Derlak at derlakb1@rheacounty.org   
                                                               
Rhea Greenwave boys AAU travel basketball will be holding FINAL OPEN TRYOUTS for BOYS ONLY at Rhea County High School on the following days:  Monday, Feb. 25 – Fourth-graders from 5:30 to 6:15 p.m., fifth-graders from 6:15 to 7 p.m. and sixth-graders from 7 to 8 p.m.  Tuesday, Feb. 26–Seventh-graders from 5:30 to 6:45 p.m. and eighth-graders from 6:45 to 8 p.m.
This will be the last opportunity to tryout for Greenwave travel basketball this season. Players who make the team for their respective grade will be notified on Wednesday, Feb. 27. Rosters will also be posted online at www.rheagreenwave.com.

The Rhea Family YMCA will hold an interest meeting on Saturday, Feb. 23, at 5:30 p.m. at the Fourth Avenue gym for a Women’s Basketball League.
The league will start March 2, and teams will play every Saturday in the evenings in March, in addition to a single elimination tournament on March 23. Registration for the 2013 Dayton Dizzy Dean Baseball season, ages 3-16, will be held on February 2, 9, 16 and 23 from 10 a.m.-noon at the baseball complex.
Registration fees for ages 3-12 are $85 (including raffle tickets) for the first child and $80 for each additional child. Registration fees for ages 13-16 are $75. Please bring a copy of your child’s birth certificate.  Contact Rusty Tipton at 423-618-6033 for more information.
Spring City Dixie Youth Baseball will hold signups every Saturday in the month of February from 10 a.m. till 2 p.m. at the baseball fields on New Lake Road in Spring City for the 2013 season.

Dayton City School teacher Trish Newsom will be running in the 2013 Boston Marathon with Team Hoyt of the Hoyt Foundation.  Since Team Hoyt is a charity, a requirement for her to join the team is to raise $5,000.  A year ago, she raised over $8,000 for the cause through several fundraisers.
Newsom and her supporters are again sponsoring a ‘Run with Trish 5K for Team Hoyt & Family/Kid 1-mile fun run/walk’ on Saturday, March 2, at 9 a.m., at the TN Riverpark, Pavillion No. 3, in Chattanooga.
Registration begins at 8 a.m.  The 5K run/walk will cost $20 per person, $10 for children under 10.  The 1-mile fun run/walk cost will be $10 per person.  Race day registration increases to $25 per person and $15 for children under10.  Exact cash or check only will be accepted.
