In an effort to boost school security, the Rhea County Board of Education approved new door latching systems at its regular monthly meeting on Thursday.

The board discussed two proposals, one to actually change structurally the entrance to both Rhea Central Elementary School and Frazier Elementary at a cost close to $30,000, versus installing a new “striker” system that allows office personnel to view the front door through a camera and monitor system and allow access remotely at a total cost of about $4,000.
