The Rhea County High School basketball teams traveled to Cumberland County on Saturday and came back with a 1-1 record, as the Lady Eagles claimed a 47-41 win, while the Eagles fell 69-61.
The regular season has ended, but both Rhea clubs are pitted against Walker Valley in the opening round of the District 5-AAA tournament on Friday, Feb. 15, with the Lady Eagles slated to tipoff at 6 p.m. and the Eagles square off at 7:30 p.m.
The Lady Eagles enter the district tournament with a 19-8 overall record, 6-6 in league play, while the Eagles enter the postseason with an 11-15 record, 5-7 in district play.
If the Rhea squads win the first round game, they will play on Saturday, Feb. 16, and will automatically advance to the Region 3-AAA tournament the following week regardless of how they finish in the district tourney, but a first round loss would end their season.
