The Rhea County School Board discussed school security and how some of the schools were designed with keeping children safe from a fire in the building — not an intruder entering the building — at the board’s regular monthly meeting on Thursday.

“Several of our schools were designed with the fire marshal in mind while newer ones have the single entrance and exits that only open from the inside,” Rhea Director of Schools Jerry Levengood told the board on Thursday.
