Heaters are being turned on and fires are being lit in fireplaces. It's not only the start of the winter season but fire season as well.

Local fire departments are hoping to cut down on the number of fire related accidents and deaths in Rhea County by taking advantage of state-sponsored program to install free smoke alarms in homes that are in need.
