Bryan baseball now 8-3
The Bryan College baseball team is off to a strong start this season, advancing to 8-3 on the season with three wins in this weekend's Tennessee Valley Invitational.
The Lions hosted the tournament and defeated Indiana Wesleyan University in the opening round on Thursday 6-2.
Bryan's team narrowly lost to Asbury University on Friday night 13-11, but defeated Madonna University 5-4 and Berea College 4-2 on Saturday.
Local product Tyler Latham hit two solo home runs on Thursday.
Dewayne Boyd had a three-run yard bomb to help the Lions defeat Berea.
Perhaps Bryan's greatest feat of the weekend, however, was defeating NAIA No. 11 ranked Madonna University. The Lions' defense held the top-ranked team scoreless through six innings.
Though Madonna took a 4-3 lead in the top of the final inning, the Lions loaded the bases in the bottom of the inning. With two outs, Madonna walked in the tying run. Billy Veal then hit a game-winning single to seal the victory.
Bryan College will travel to Shorter College on Wednesday for a 1 p.m. non-conference game.
