Zachery Dewayne Maye, originally from Evensville and a 2006 graduate of Rhea County High School, graduated from the University of North Carolina at Asheville (UNCA) on Dec. 18, 2010, with a Bachelor of Science degree in Atmospheric Sciences.

Maye's concentration in the Atmospheric Sciences is Weather Forecasting, with emphasis an tropical, severe and winter weather.

Maye enjoys chasing storms, and in April 2010 chased severe thunderstorms, one of which produced an EF4 tornado, throughout Alabama and Mississippi.

While job prospects after graduation included the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) in Washington, D.C., as well a job being one of three state meteorologists for Florida, Maye chose a job as a Meteorologist for the United States Department of Defense, where he was a student hire during most of his time at UNCA.

He currently resides in Asheville and enjoys making forecasts for family and friends, both in North Carolina and East Tennessee.

Maye began his college career with two years at Chattanooga State Community College, during which he was also a substitute teacher for the Rhea County Department of Education.  He is the son of Dewayne and Donna Maye of Dayton, and the grandson of Robert and Christine Gunter of Evensville, and Gene and Dorothy Maye of Soddy-Daisy, Tenn.
