Tryouts will be held Aug. 2, 3 and 4 for the Rhea Middle School softball team at the Rhea County High School softball field from 5 to 7 p.m. and will be closed to parents Upcoming sixth-, seventh- and eighth-graders from Dayton City, Spring City Middle and Rhea Central Elementary schools are invited. They must bring a current physical to the first day of tryouts.
"Please read sports announcements in the paper for changes," Head Coach Michelle McCuistion said.
Those trying out are asked to wear comfortable clothing and cleats, in addition to bringing a glove, bat and helmet, if they have these items.
Tryouts will consist of throwing, catching, running and hitting. Student must have passed for the 2009-10 year to play school ball for the 2010 season and is requested to bring a copy of her final grade card.
If players are on a travel team, they cannot practice or play with the travel team until school ball is over. Contact McCuistion at 605-8340 for more information.

Flag Football tournament slated for Sept. 4-5
The Rhea Family YMCA will be holding an adult flag-football tournament Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 4 and 5. There is an eight-player minimum, $100 registration fee and three-game guarantee. Teams can choose to play five-man, 50-yard no contact or eight-man 100-yard flag football. Pool play will be on Saturday with single elimination starting on Sunday. DCS Sweatbees hold football sign-ups
Anyone interested in playing football for Dayton City School this year will need to have their physicals completed by Monday, Aug. 2. The team will be meeting in the gym on that Monday and Tuesday, Aug. 3, from 3 to 4:30 p.m. to hand out equipment and discuss the upcoming practice schedules as well as games to be played. Physical forms may be picked up in the DCS office Monday through Friday between 9 a.m. and noon or 1 to 3 p.m. Only TSSAA/DCS physical forms are acceptable and must be completed before any student can try out or practice. Coach Larry Mason said he looks forward to meeting returning players and any new students interested in playing.
YMCA taking registration for fall soccer league
The Rhea Family YMCA is currently taking registration for its fall soccer league for ages 3 to 14. There will be a parents meeting on Monday, Aug. 16, at 6 p.m. at the YMCA Childcare Building on Market Street. A coach's meeting will be held Monday, Aug. 23, at 6 p.m. at the same location. Skills testing will be Tuesday, Aug. 24, for ages 5 to 8 from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., and on Thursday, Aug. 26, for ages 9 to 14 from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. All skill sessions will be held at the Delaware Avenue Fields across from Rhea Central.
There will be a free clinic for all participants on Aug. 28 from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at the Delaware Fields. Practice begins the week of Aug. 30, and games will start Sept. 11.

Don Brown (S.C. Boat Dock) was closest to the hole on No. 13 at 2-feet, 10-inches, while Art Klee (Suburban) topped hole No. 16 at 6-feet, 10-inches.
Zach Madewell (Middle Tennessee Natural Gas), Scott Travis (Today's Dental) and Joe Wilkey (State Farm) tied for highest points with 19 each.
Patrick Fisher (RBA Construction) and Keith Bedillion (AP Services) tied for most over quota.
