TWRA to teach Hunter Education class

The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency will be teaching a Hunter Education class at Rhea County High School the week of Aug. 2-7. Class times will be from 6 p.m.to 9 p.m., Monday through Friday (off Wednesday), and a short field day Saturday morning (time to be determined). Registration will be the first night, and attendance is mandatory each day for course completion.  This class is open to the public and free of charge. As a reminder, anyone born after Jan. 1, 1969, must have completed a hunter education class to hunt in the state of Tennessee.


Deano's golf tournament on tap for July 24

On Saturday, July 24, the Dayton Golf and Country Club will play host to the 13th annual Deano's Golf Tournament. The annual Shaver family reunion and scholarship event will be a four-person select shot format over 18 holes and starts at 3 p.m.

The cost will be $40 per person which includes golf, a cart and one mulligan. Prizes will be awarded for first, second and third place as well as longest drive and closest to the pin.

Crystal Lanes taking signups for fall leagues

Fall leagues at Crystal Lanes Bowling Center will begin Aug. 9. Sign-ups are now open. Call Debbie or Amanda at 775-1547.


RMS softball tryouts dates changed to August

Tryouts will be held Aug. 2, 3 and 4 for the Rhea Middle School softball team at the Rhea County High School softball field from 5 to 7 p.m.  and will be closed to parents
Upcoming sixth-, seventh- and eighth-graders from Dayton City, Spring City Middle and Rhea Central Elementary schools are invited. They must bring a current physical to the first day of tryouts.

"Please read sports announcements in the paper for changes," Head Coach Michelle McCuistion said.

Those trying out are asked to wear comfortable clothing and cleats, in addition to bringing a glove, bat and helmet, if they have these items.

Tryouts will consist of throwing, catching, running and hitting. Student must pass for the 2009-2010 year to play school ball for the 2010 season and is requested to bring a copy of her final grade card.

If players are on a travel team, they cannot practice or play with the travel team until school ball is over.  Contact McCuistion at 605-8340 for more information.


Annual FCA camp slated for July 26-29 at RCHS

Rhea County Fellowship of Christian Athletes will have its annual FCA sports camp July 26-29.
The camp will run from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. each day, and the cost will be $40. It is open to those in kindergarten through eighth-grade. Contact Steffan Holder at 309-8843 or Micah Ruehling at 883-1007 for more information.


DCS holds football sign-ups

Anyone interested in playing football for Dayton City School this year will need to have their physicals completed by Monday, Aug. 2.  The team will be meeting in the gym on that Monday and Tuesday, Aug. 3, from 3 to 4:30 p.m. to hand out equipment and discuss the upcoming practice schedules as well as games to be played. Physical forms may be picked up in the DCS office Monday through Friday between 9 a.m. and noon or 1 to 3 p.m.  Only TSSAA/DCS physical forms are acceptable and must be completed before any student can try out or practice. Coach Larry Mason said he looks forward to meeting returning players and any new students interested in playing.
    

Attention RCHS freshmen football players

Any rising ninth-grader interested in playing freshman football at Rhea County High School  is asked to attend practice on Monday, July 26, at 5 p.m. at RCHS. Athletes are asked to have completed their physical already. Contact Jason Fitzgerald at 775-0733 with questions.


Flag Football tournament slated for Sept. 4-5

The Rhea Family YMCA will be holding an adult flag-football tournament Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 4 and 5. There is an eight-player minimum, $100 registration fee and three game guarantee. Teams can choose to play five-man, 50-yard no contact or eight-man 100-yard flag football. Pool play will be on Saturday with single elimination starting on Sunday. There will be a rules and coaches meeting the Friday before the game. Call Lamont Singleton at 775-5859 for more information.


S.C. Red Dogs hold sign-ups on Saturdays

The Spring City Red Dogs will be holding cheerleading and football sign-ups each Saturday through the end of July. Sign-ups will be at Red Dog Field on the right side of Hwy. 27 north from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The league is for children ages 4 through upcoming fifth-graders. The cost has been reduced to $55 for cheer or football, and $5 is taken off for each additional child. For more information, contact Shannon Reed at 365-9652. Sign-ups are also being taken for football and cheerleading coaches.


Little Eagles to hold sign-ups on Saturdays in July
 
The Dayton Little Eagles will hold sign-ups for football and cheerleading every Saturday in July at the Dayton Little Eagles Field House behind the YMCA from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Sign-up fees will be $50 per child. There will be a limit of 22 players per team this year, so everyone is asked to sign up early to ensure a spot on the team.

The Dayton Little Eagles will play in the Scenic City Football League in Chattanooga. They will get to play games at Finley Stadium again this year.

Ages for the Little Eagles are from 5- to 12-years-old for football players and cheerleaders. If a child has never played for the Little Eagles, they will need to bring a copy of their birth certificate.

Golf team holds fundraiser

On Wednesday, July 28, the Dayton Golf and Country Club will host a fundraising tournament for the Rhea County High School Golf team.  Lunch will be served at noon followed by the select-shot, four-man tournament at 1 p.m. The cost is $60 per player or $240 per team.

RCHS football season tickets on sale

Rhea County High School football season tickets are now on sale. The cost is $25 for all five home games. Call the field house at 775-0733.
