On Saturday, June 12, 28 sheep and 18 head of cattle were brought to the Rhea County 4-H Livestock Show.

The livestock project is for any 4-H member who is interested in working with and exhibiting a sheep or beef animal.

Exhibiting in the show were Justin and Josh Lamb, Leslie Kaylor, Matt and Miranda Graham, Randy Reed, Hannah Wright and Brad Tollett.

In the opening class of sheep showmanship, the senior champion was Justin Lamb, and junior champion was Josh Lamb. Following showmanship was the market lamb classes, where Josh Lamb exhibited the grand champion, and Justin Lamb exhibited reserve. In commercial ewes, Justin Lamb won grand champion, with Kaylor exhibiting the reserve champion ewe.

In the cattle division of showmanship, Wright was awarded senior grand champion with Reed winning reserve. In market steers, Tollett took both grand and reserve champion honors, with Reed exhibiting the grand champion commercial heifer, followed by Brad Tollett with reserve.

Premier exhibitor awards were also given to the highest juniors and seniors in both species with a combined score from their showing classes and skill-a-thon.

Senior cattle premier exhibitor went to Wright with junior honors to Reed. Senior sheep premier exhibitor went to Justin Lamb with Junior Honors to Josh Lamb.

The youth will now continue on to the regional and state shows in July. The 4-Her's exhibited a great set of cattle and sheep this year, many of which are for sale.

Rhea County 4-H would like to thank the following sponsors for making this show a success: Jackson General Store, East TN Livestock Center, Ag Credit, Animal Hospital, Athens Stockyard, Farm Bureau, Rhea County NRCS and Farm Credit.

For more information on these projects and the sale of these animals, contact the Extension Office at 775-7807.
