On Saturday, June 12, 28 sheep and 18 head of cattle were
brought to the Rhea County 4-H Livestock Show.
The livestock project is for any 4-H member
who is interested in working with and exhibiting a sheep or beef animal.
Exhibiting in the
show were Justin and Josh Lamb, Leslie Kaylor, Matt and Miranda Graham, Randy Reed, Hannah Wright
and Brad Tollett.
In the opening class of sheep showmanship, the senior champion was Justin
Lamb, and junior champion was Josh Lamb. Following showmanship was the market lamb classes, where
Josh Lamb exhibited the grand champion, and Justin Lamb exhibited reserve. In commercial ewes,
Justin Lamb won grand champion, with Kaylor exhibiting the reserve champion ewe.
In the
cattle division of showmanship, Wright was awarded senior grand champion with Reed winning reserve.
In market steers, Tollett took both grand and reserve champion honors, with Reed exhibiting the
grand champion commercial heifer, followed by Brad Tollett with reserve.
Premier exhibitor
awards were also given to the highest juniors and seniors in both species with a combined score from
their showing classes and skill-a-thon.
Senior cattle premier exhibitor went to Wright with
junior honors to Reed. Senior sheep premier exhibitor went to Justin Lamb with Junior Honors to Josh
Lamb.
The youth will now continue on to the regional and state shows in July. The 4-Her's
exhibited a great set of cattle and sheep this year, many of which are for sale.
