Santa made all his deliveries, and hundreds of Rhea County citizens received goodies last Christmas, but the Rhea County Sheriff's Department still has gifts for those who need them.
Every year the department puts on a toy and coat drive for local families overcome by hard times, and officers spend the days around Christmas delivering the gifts to those in the area.
But Special Projects Coordinator Jeff Knight said the department still has leftover coats and wants to see them go to use in one of the colder winters of recent memory.
"We're more than happy to give them to anyone who needs them," Knight said.
After giving away more than 1,250 coats for Christmas, the most ever, the department received another large donation of children's coats - about 150. Knight said the department also had about 50 adult coats left over as well.
The sheriff's department wants to give those 200 coats out to anyone who needs them, Knight said. Those interested should contact the sheriff's office.
Even if the department doesn't have the size someone needs or runs out of coats, Knight said officials will submit a request to the Dayton Goodwill Industries store to get people what they need.
As for the 2010 toy and coat drive, Knight said the department is already building up its stock.
"We're already getting some donations for next Christmas," he said.
The department typically has stuffed toys left over each year, which they use for the next Christmas.
