High school students in Tennessee's 3rd Congressional District can now submit applications to Congressman Zach Wamp for a nomination to U.S. service academies for the 2009-2010 school year.

Applications are due Oct. 30, 2009, to his Oak Ridge District Office.

Wamp can make nominations to each academy, including the U.S. Military Academy in West Point, N.Y.; the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md.; the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colo.; the U.S. Coast Guard Academy in New London, Conn.; and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, N.Y.

To be considered for admission to a service academy, a candidate must meet the eligibility requirements of each academy, qualify medically, pass a physical aptitude test, meet predetermined levels on the SAT or ACT and obtain a nomination source authorized by Congress.

Complete instructions on the application process are available online at http://www.house.gov/wamp/academies.shtm.

Students or parents with questions may contact Gina McMahan in Wamp's Oak Ridge District Office at 865-576-1976 or 1-800-883-2369.

Completed applications can be sent by e-mail to gina.mcmahan@mail.house.gov or by mail to:
Congressman Zach Wamp, Attention: Gina McMahan, 200 Administration Rd., Ste.100, P.O. Box 2001, Oak Ridge, Tenn., 37831.
