Graysville police are searching for a man they allege stole several thousand dollars worth of property last month and are asking for the public's help.
Chief Thomas Mahoney said warrants have been taken out on 37-year-old James William "JJ" Finch Jr. for reportedly breaking into a Long Street home on June 13 in Graysville and taking the property inside.
"We've heard every rumor imaginable saying that this guy is hiding everywhere from Florida to Timbuktu, but likely he's somewhere close," Mahoney said.
Mahoney said police believe Finch allegedly made at least two other trips to the home to try to take whatever he could while the family was in the process of moving.
Among items missing from the home are 300 to 500 DVDs, $1,500 worth of specialty motorcycle tools, landscaping equipment and power tools.
Police also said Finch reportedly stole four Boss brand 20-inch custom wheels and tires, valued at $1,200.
Two people have already been arrested and charged in connection with the thefts. Joshua Allen Mooneyham, 24, and Amy Michelle Bice, 32, were both arrested last month. Both are free after posting bond.
Despite Mooneyham and Bice's alleged involvement, Graysville Patrolman David Spandau said his department still wants to nab Finch.
"We've got concrete information that Finch was the ring leader for this situation," he said.
Chief Mahoney said police believe Finch is holed up somewhere in the area. His last known address was 128 Roberts Road in Graysville.
Police said Finch is about 5-foot-8, has brown hair and brown eyes and has the word "Joker" tattooed on his right arm.
Mahoney directed anyone who may have information on Finch or the property police allege he stole to contact the Graysville Police Department at 775-2525. Or they can leave anonymous tips on the town's Web site at www.graysvilletn.org., which is a new feature for the town.
"This is going to be kind of a test for it," Mahoney said. "We need help locating this guy."
