An Evensville family lost their home to an early morning fire on Sunday.

Rhea County Fire Investigator Chuck Kinney ruled that a wiring problem sparked the blaze that razed the Smyrna Road house at about 5 a.m.

No one was injured in the fire. Kinney's report states that Jimmy and Peggy Stone were camping and not in their home at the time. But several pet cats died in the fire, according to Kinney.

Some 25 firefighters from Evensville, Wolf Creek and Garrison responded to the blaze, but they reported to Kinney that by the time they arrived, the center of the home was already enveloped in flames.

Kinney said that the fire appears to have started in the living room, next to the fireplace.

Kinney said wiring near the fireplace indicated the fire was electrical in nature.

The home was insured, and the American Red Cross is assisting the family.
