Lashawn Peebles of Spring City gives blood every time she
gets the chance, but it took a personal experience to open her eyes to
the need for blood donors.
"I started doing it after I needed a blood transfusion myself," said

Eight men were arrested Thursday for allegedly stealing over $1,000 worth of tomatoes from a local farm.

The Rhea County Budget Committee met on Monday to discuss
moving funds and possibly raising property taxes in order to alleviate a
nearly $1.3 million budget deficit.
At a county commission workshop in May, the total budget deficit for the
2010-11 budget was estimated at $700,000, but at similar meetings in
June and July, the deficit had grown to $800,000. And on Aug. 10 at
another workshop, it was announced that the total budget deficit reached

Rhea Medical Center could be growing its facilities in
coming months, as its board of directors voted last week to look into an
office expansion.
At last Tuesday's monthly board meeting, the hospital's directors
approved spending $12,750 to order a feasibility study, investigating
whether or not RMC could add office space on its property. More
State Sen. Ken Yager, R-Harriman, has been recognized as one of
the eight best pro-business legislators in the Tennessee General Assembly by a key business magazine

After their first District 5-AAA win of the season on
Monday, the Rhea County boys’ and girls’ golf teams were hoping for a
hotstreak with two more district matches this week.
On Tuesday, the Eagles traveled to Cleveland High School to take on the
Raiders for the second day in a row. Despite a victory on Monday at the
Dayton Golf and Country Club, the RCHS boys could not pull out a win in
Cleveland, losing by four strokes to CHS. More
