The Hoops from the Heart Basketball Clinic will be held at the Rhea Family YMCA for grades K-8 on Monday, Dec. 23, from 12-3 p.m.
Organizers ask that each camper bring a toy instead of a camp fee. The toys will be given to deserving children on Christmas Eve. If you want to participate, and cannot afford to bring a toy, that is okay. No one will be turned down. Children will participate in several work-stations developing basketball fundamentals.
Member of Hoops from the Heart Staff include: DCS Coach Kristy Hurst, former Florida State University Legend Christy Derlak Akin and Roy Pankey. We will also be assisted by local college, and high school players.
The event is sponsored by the DCS Lady Sweatbees, Power Up Basketball and Rhea YMCA. For more information, contact Roy at 423-285-0334 or YMCA at 423-775-0821.
The Rhea County High School Lady Eagles’ freshmen battled the White County Warriorettes on Monday to a triple overtime 44-40 loss in Evensville.
Makayla Bustos paced the Lady Eagles to an 11-6 lead at the end of the first quarter and a 19-13 halftime lead. The teams tied in the third but a 16-point fourth quarter for the visitors pushed the game into overtime and eventually the win.
Scorers for Rhea include: Bustos 10; Hope Baker 9; Lauren Clark 6; Emma Ruth Keylon 5; Faith Davis 4; Cloe Gann 2; Sydney Bowers 2; Olivia Rekoske 2.
At each home Rhea County High School basketball game between now and December 21, you can find the Lady Eagle Basketball Booth/table and see the donated NFL jerseys and make a donation to Lady Eagle Basketball. Each donation will give you an opportunity to win one of the jerseys. The winners of the jerseys will be announced during the final night of the Eagle Holiday Hoops Tournament on Saturday, December 21, between the girls’ and boys’ championship games. You do not have to be present to win. NFL jerseys include Tom Brady, Andrew Luck, RGIII, and Ben Roethlisberger.
