RCHS Class of 1983 Reunion (10/26) — The Rhea County High School Class of 1983 will celebrate its 30 year reunion on Saturday, Oct. 26, at The Car Barn in Chattanooga from 6:30 to 11 p.m. For more information on costs, reservations, etc., call Kelly Willison at 423-667-3215.
Fly-In, Drive-In Breakfast (10/26) — The Civil Air Patrol will host a breakfast from 8 to 11 a.m. at the Mark Anton Municipal Airport on Saturday, Oct. 26. The all-you-can-eat cost is $6 for adults and $3 for children under 10. The event will be held rain or shine.
Drug Take Back in Dayton & Spring City (10/26) — A Drug Take Back will be held on Saturday, Oct. 26, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the parking lot of Wal-Mart in Dayton and the City Hall in Spring City. Unused, unwanted and expired medications will be collected for safe disposal. This event is sponsored by the Rhea County Anti-Drug Coalition (RCAD), the Rhea County Sheriff’s Department and the United Way of Rhea County. For more information, call 775-5633.
Memorial Dedication at Cherokee Removal Park-Blythe Ferry (10/27) — Friends of the Park will host a dedication ceremony on Sunday, Oct. 27, at 2 p.m. for a new memorial which lists the 2,000 names, commonly known as the Henderson Census Roll, of Cherokees forced west. The memorial was constructed in observance of the 175th Anniversary of the Trail of Tears. A sign on Highway 60 in Meigs County directs visitors to the park.
Amnesty Week at Audrey Pack Memorial Library (10/28-11/1) — Audrey Pack Memorial Library will be holding an amnesty week from Monday, Oct. 28, to Friday, Nov. 1. Patrons who return overdue materials during that week will have the fines for those materials forgiven.
Basic Computer Class at Clyde W. Roddy Library (10/29) — The Clyde W. Roddy Library will offer a basic computer class on Tuesday, Oct. 29, from 1 to 3 p.m. Limited space is available. Sign up at the front desk or call 775-8406.
George Hudson Book Signing (10/29) — Former Rhea County educator George Hudson will hold a book signing for his newest novel, Purple Haze, on Thursday, Oct. 29, at Harmony House Coffee Company, located on First Avenue in Dayton, beginning at 6 p.m.
FAFSA Discussion at Clyde W. Roddy Library (10/29) — Eric Farmer will discuss the Free Application for Student Aid (FAFSA) process at the Clyde W. Roddy Library on Tuesday, Oct. 29, beginning at 6 p.m.
Walden’s Ridge Community Center Dinner & Meeting (10/29) — The Walden’s Ridge Community Center will host a Pot-Luck Dinner and Informational Meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 29, at 6 p.m. Everyone is welcomed to attend.
Free Old Mountain Remedies Workshop (10/29) — The H.O.P.E. Lifestyle Center, located at 1548 Cemetery Road in Spring City (behind Spring City Seventh-day Adventist Church), will host a free Old Mountain Remedies Workshop on Tuesday, Oct. 29, from 6 to 8 p.m. Walt Cross, a native of southeastern Tennessee mountains, will be presenting a workshop.
Fall Festival at Spring City Care & Rehab (10/31) — The Spring City Care and Rehabilitation Center Fall Festival will be held on Thursday, Oct. 31, from 4 to 6 p.m. There will be trick or treating by the residents, bounce , finger printing, face painting, popcorn for kids of all ages.
Trick or Treating at Life Care Center of Rhea County (10/31) — Life Care Center of Rhea County will hold trick or treating on Thurday, Oct. 31 from 5 to 7 p.m. Those attending are asked to enter the second building where the flags are flying.
“In Her Shoes” Program by Rhea County Domestic Violence Council (11/1) — The Rhea County Domestic Violence Council in partnership with Mountain View United Methodist Church will hold a program titled “In Her Shows” on Friday, Nov. 1, at noon at Mountain View United Methodist Church, located at 124 Shasta Dr. in Dayton. The 45 minute session is a hands-on simulation of the struggles faced by the victims of domestic violence.
Boy Scout Troop 187 Spaghetti Fundraiser (11/2) — Boy Scout Troop 187 in Spring City will hold their 1st annual “All You Can Eat” Spaghetti Dinner fundraiser on Saturday, Nov. 2, in the Family Life Center of Spring City United Methodist Church, located at 245 Church Street. Dinner will be served from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. followed by an auction for various desserts and other items. Dinner tickets are $6.50 per person and may be purchased at the door or in advance. Spring City Benefit Talent Show (11/2) — A talent show will be held on Saturday, Nov. 2, at Veteran’s Park in Spring City from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The event will include games, activities, food & drinks and entertainment. Friends of Audrey Pack Memorial Library Silent Auction (11/4-6) — Friends of the Audrey Pack Memorial Library will hold a silent auction from Monday, Nov. 4, to Thursday, Nov. 14. Donations may be dropped off at the library at any time prior to the beginning of the auction. Bidding will begin on Monday, Nov. 4, at 9 a.m. and end at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 6. Bids may be placed at any time between those dates during the library’s regular hours. All proceeds will be used to benefit the library and its programs. Audrey Pack Memorial Library Closes for System Upgrade (11/11-14) — The Audrey Pack Memorial Library will be closed from Monday, Nov. 11, to Thursday, Nov. 14, as the library switches to a new circulation program. The library will reopen on Friday, Nov. 15.
