Art Guild of Spring City Seeks Members — The Art Guild of Spring City is currently accepting new members. Those interested may call 423-533-2408 for more information.
American Cancer Society Fundraisers (8/17) — A T-shirt and baked goods sale at Wal-Mart along with a baked goods sale at Save-A-Lot will be held on Saturday, Aug. 17, beginning at 9 a.m. All proceeds will benefit the American Cancer Society.
Our Fair Lady Pageant Deadline (8/17) — The deadline for the Rhea County Fair’s My Fair Lady Pageant is Saturday, Aug. 17. The pageant is open to women over 60 years of age who are US citizens. Prospective contestants must submit a recent 4x6 photo, a written statement of their ‘philosphy of life’ and a $25 entry fee. Contestants will be required to dress in formal attire and participate in an interview during the pageant. Participants will practice Monday, Aug. 19 at 6 p.m. at the fairgrounds. Morgan Family Reunion (8/18) — The Morgan family reunion will be held on Sunday, Aug. 18, at the Walden’s Ridge Community Center on Dayton Mountain. The reunion will begin at noon with the meal beginning at 1 p.m. EST. Those attending are asked to bring a pot luck dish.
Lunch and Learn in Spring City (8/20) — A Lunch and Learn program will be held at Winstead’s American Grill in Spring City on Tuesday, Aug. 20, from noon until 1 p.m. The program, The Second Talk for Women — A New Type of Normal, will be presented by Dr. Kristi Angevine OB/GYN. Skating Party Benefit for American Cancer Society (8/22) — A skating party will be held on Thursday, Aug. 22, at Crystal Springs Skating Center from 6 to 8 p.m. All proceeds will benefit the American Cancer Society.
Fly-In, Drive-In Breakfast (8/24) — The Civil Air Patrol will host a breakfast from 8 to 11 a.m. at the Mark Anton Municipal Airport on Saturday, Aug. 24. The all-you-can-eat cost is $6 for adults and $3 for children under 10. The event will be held rain or shine.
Pat and Preston Memorial Ride (8/24) — The 2013 Annual Pat and Preston Memorial Ride, will be held Saturday, Aug. 24. Registration begins 9 a.m. at Bimbo’s Restaurant in Dayton with kickstands up at 11 a.m. All proceeds benefit “Toys for Children” a Christmas charity. A BBQ lunch will be provided. United Daughters of the Confederacy Meeting (8/24) — The John Quincy Adams Shaver Chapter of United Daughters of the Confederacy will meet at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 24, in Dayton. Membership is open to women no less than 16 years of age who are blood descendants, lineal or collateral, of men and women who served honorably in the army, navy or civil service of the Confederate States of America or gave material aid to the cause.
Community Children’s and Youth Choir Auditions (8/29) — Auditions will be held for the Bryan College Community Children’s and Youth Choir on Thursday, Aug. 29 at 4 p.m. in the chorale room of Rudd Auditorium. The Children’s Choir is open to fourth through eighth graders and the Youth Choir is open to ninth through 12th graders. A $25 per semester fee is required from participants in both choirs and Youth Choir members are also required to pay a one-time uniform fee. Daddy-Daughter Dance to Benefit American Cancer Society (8/31) — A Daddy-Daughter Dane will be held at Spring City Elementary School on Saturday, Aug. 31, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Early registration cost is $10 and at the door registration cost is $15. The categories are Baby Miss/Mister (0 to 11 months), Toddler Miss/Mister (12 to 23 months), Tot Miss/Mister (24 to 35 months), Wee Miss/Mister (3 to 4-years-old), Tiny Miss (5 to 6-years-old), Little Miss/Mister (7 to 9-years-old), Young Miss/Mister (10 to 12-years-old) and Jr. Miss/Mister (13 to 15-years-old). This is a natural beauty pageant with no make-up, hair extensions or pageant attire allowed. A minimum of three contestants must be entered in a category for that category to be included in the pageant. The pageant will be held Friday, Sept. 20, at the Graysville City Hall, located at 136 Harrison Ave., beginning with check-in at 5 p.m. followed by the pageant at 6 p.m. Contact the City of Graysville at 775-9242 for more information.
