The Watts Bar Yacht Club (WBYC) will hold nautical classes at the Lakeside Marina in the WBYC Clubroom. The marina is located on Whites Creek by water or 1190 Whites Creek Road (off of Hwy 27) north of Spring City.
The classes will last approximately one hour, and will be taught by local subject matter experts. Classes include:
Aug. 22 — Anchoring
Sept. 5 — Locking Through
Sept. 19 — Operating Around Barge Traffic
Oct. 3 — Inclement Weather Boating
Oct. 17 — Piloting (River Boating)
Nov. 7 — Winterizing/Prepping
Nov. 21 — Mechanical Systems Maintenance (Pt. 1)
Dec. 5 — Mechanical Systems Maintenance (Pt 2)
Previous classes presented by the WBYC covered basic and advanced navigation, basic first aid and CPR, nautical knots, night operations, rules of the water and cruise planning.
These classes are directed toward boat-owners ranging from runabouts and pontoons to motor and sailing yachts.
In addition to educational programs, the WBYC is involved in charitable fundraising and socials with live music.
