It is rare that a teacher will get to open the same school twice, but that is the case for long-time language teacher Richard Daugherty.
Daugherty was a fresh-faced teacher just out of college when Rhea County High School opened in 1974 and was on hand this week as classes began for the start of his 40th year in the classroom. He is the only teacher to have taught when the old school opened that is still teaching at the new school that opened this week.
