Domestic Violence Support Group Meeting — A domestic violence support group will meet each Thursday evening from 6:15 to 7:15 p.m. The support group, which is offered by the Rhea County Domestic Violence Prevention Council, gives survivors of domestic violence, sexual abuse/assault and teen dating abuse a safe and confidential environment to receive support, guidance and education.The meeting is free and childcare is provided. Give A Kid A Chance Event Registration Deadline (7/8) — The registration deadline for the Give-a-Kid-a-Chance Event will be July 9. Registration forms can be picked up at local libraries. Children that have gotten well-child exams within the past 12 months. The Give-a-Kid-a-Chance Event will distribute freee school supplies to children on July 18 at the Rhea County High School in Evensville between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m.
Blood Donors Needed — Blood Assurance is in urgent need for blood donors, especially those with blood type O negative. Rhea Countians are encouraged to attend an upcoming blood drive in Dayton. The Blood Assurance Blood Mobile will be at Wal-Mart on Monday, July 8, from noon to 5:30 p.m.
Rhea County Academy Summer Camp (6/3 - 7/22) — Rhea County Academy will host an eight-week summer camp from June 3 through July 22. The camp will run from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the school with after-hours child care available until 6 p.m. For more information or to register, contact Rhea County Academy at 775-2826.
Pickett/Beene/Headlee & Friends Get-Together (7/4) — A get-together for the Pickett/Beene/Headlee families and friends will be held Thursday, July 4, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Walden’s Ridge Community Center on Dayton Mountain Highway (Hwy. 30 W). Carver High School Reunion (7/5, 6 & 7) — The alumni of Dayton Carver High School will meet for a reunion from July 5 through July 7 in Dayton. A banquet will be held on Friday, July 5, at 5 p.m. at the Dayton Welcome Center on Main Street. For more information, call 775-2623.
Spring City Shake the Lake Independence Day Celebration (7/6) — Spring City will hold their annual “Shake the Lake” Independence Day celebration at Veteran’s Park on Saturday, July 6.
The all-day event will start with registration for the Mr. & Miss Firecracker Pageant at 9 a.m. The pageant will include five age categories for boys and girls from newborn to eight-years-old. The pageant will begin at 10 a.m. with the Baby Miss Firecracker category and will continue until the final Mister Firecracker category begins at 12:15 p.m. The afternoon’s events will begin with registration for the watermelon and pickle eating contests at noonwith the pickle eating contest beginning at 1 p.m. followed by the watermelon eating contest at 1:30 p.m. Karaoke will begin at 2 p.m. followed by sign-ups for the Diaper Derby, Teddy Bear Run and Duck Race at 3 p.m. The Diaper Derby will begin at 4 p.m. followed by the Teddy Bear Run at 4:15 p.m. and the Duck Race at 5 p.m. The events continue into the evening as live band music continues with Corey Rose and Evervigilant performing until dark when fireworks will light the night sky to conclude to festivities.
Graysville Fire Department FreedomFest (7/6) — Graysville Fire Department will hold their 4th annual Fourth of July celebration at Graysville Park (kristopher’s kingdom) on Saturday, July 6. The event will start at 4 p.m. and the Little Miss/Mr Red, White, & Blue contest will be at 4:30 p.m. The contest is for boys and girls 0-10 years old. There will be face painting, vendors, water games, Air Evac, Lifeforce, kids activities, food, music and live bands. The event will conclude with fireworks at dark.
Fly-In, Drive-In Breakfast (7/27) — The Civil Air Patrol will host a breakfast from 8 to 11 a.m. at the Mark Anton Municipal Airport on Saturday, July27. The all-you-can-eat cost is $6 for adults and $3 for children under 10. The event will be held rain or shine.
Cub Scout Pack 3214 Flag Retirement Ceremony (8/5) — Dayton Cub Scout Pack 3214 will hold an American Flag Retirement Ceremony on Monday, Aug. 5, beginning at 5 p.m. at the Dayton United Methodist Church. A flag collection box has been placed at Fastenal, located at 200 Able Towne Place in Dayton. The public is invited to attend the retirement ceremony.
