All the people shouted with a great shout, when they praised the Lord, because the foundation of the house of the Lord was laid. (Ezra 3:11)
The Hebrew POWs returning from the 70-year long Babylonian/Assyrian captivity took as their first priority the reconstruction of the Lord’s house. This was very meaningful, for their lives, like the temple, were in woeful disarray. Following their mission, Nehemiah and his corps of workers reconstructed Jerusalem’s city wall; but the temple came first. True renewal always comes from the inside out.
