Rhea County Volunteers in Medicine Clinic — The Rhea County Volunteers In Medicine (VIM) Clinic is a free medical clinic for the uninsured residents of Rhea County. The clinic is open on Thursday evenings at 5:30 p.m. and is located at the Dayton Specialty Center (next to the old hospital building). Call 775-0609 for an appointment or information.
Blood Assurance Urgent Need — Blood Assurance is in urgent need for blood donors, especially those with blood type O Negative. Rhea Countians are encouraged to attend one of the upcoming blood drives in Dayton. The Blood Assurance Blood Mobile will be at FB Bank on Tuesday, July 2, from 1:45 to 5:25 p.m. and at Wal-Mart on Monday, July 8, from noon to 5:30 p.m.
Amazing Art Adventure at ArtCrafters (6/5-26) — ArtCrafters on Market Street in Dayton, is hosting an Amazing Art Adventure for children ages 6 to 18 every Wednesday in June beginning June 5 from 2:45 to 4:15 p.m. Cost if $5 per session. Call ArtCrafters at 775-1401 for more information.
Rhea County Academy Summer Camp (6/3 - 7/22) — Rhea County Academy will host an eight-week summer camp from June 3 through July 22. The camp will run from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the school with after-hours child care available until 6 p.m. For more information or to register, contact Rhea County Academy at 775-2826.
Fly-In, Drive-In Breakfast (6/22) — The Civil Air Patrol will host a breakfast from 8 to 11 a.m. at the Mark Anton Municipal Airport on Saturday, June 22. The cost for the all-you-can-eat breakfast is $6 for adults and $3 for children under 10. The event will be held rain or shine.
Sharp-Thurman Family Reunion (6/22) — The descendents of John and Elizabeth Sharp Thurman of Morgantown will hold a family reunion on Saturday, June 22, beginning at 4 p.m. at the pavillion in Point Park in Dayton. Family members are asked to bring food and drinks for themselves and a dessert to share with the group. Kids are asked to bring their ball equipment and etc. for activities. Cub Scout Pack 3239 Car Wash Fundraiser (6/22) — Cub Scout Pack 3239 will hold a car was fundraiser on Saturday, June 22, from 1 to 5 p.m. at SouthEast Bank in Spring City. Proceeds from the car wash will benefit Cub Scout Pack 3239.
Walden’s RidgeCommunity Center Meeting (6/25) — The Walden’s Ridge Community Center will hold a meeting on Tuesday, June 25, at 6 p.m. A covered dish meal will be served followed by an informational meeting with guest speakers making presentations.
Walden’s Ridge Benefit Turkey/Ham Shoot (6/29) — The Walden’s Ridge Community Center will hold a benefit Turkey/Ham Shoot at 8 a.m. on Saturday, June 29, at Ersie’s old store on the corner of Dayton Mountain Hwy/ Hwy 30 West and Morgan Springs Rd. Signs will be posted. Snacks will be available from the Kiuka Fire Dept.
Carver High School Reunion (7/5, 6 & 7) — The alumni of Dayton Carver High School will meet for a reunion from July 5 through July 7 in Dayton. A banquet will be held oh Friday, July 5, at 5 p.m. at the Dayton Welcome Center on Main Street. For more information, call 775-2623.
Spring City Shake the Lake Independence Day Celebration (7/6) — Spring City will hold their annual “Shake the Lake” Independence Day celebration at Veteran’s Park on Saturday, July 6.
The all-day event will start with registration for the Mr. & Miss Firecracker Pageant at 9 a.m. The pageant will include five age categories for boys and girls from newborn to eight-years-old. The pageant will begin at 10 a.m. with the Baby Miss Firecracker category and will continue until the final Mister Firecracker category begins at 12:15 p.m. The afternoon’s events will begin with registration for the watermelon and pickle eating contests at 12 p.m. with the pickle eating contest beginning at 1 p.m. followed by the watermelon eating contest at 1:30 p.m. Karaoke will begin at 2 p.m. followed by sign-ups for the Diaper Derby, Teddy Bear Run and Duck Race at 3 p.m. The Diaper Derby will begin at 4 p.m. followed by the Teddy Bear Run at 4:15 p.m. and the Duck Race at 5 p.m. The events continue into the evening as live band music continues with Corey Rose and Evervigilant performing until dark when fireworks will light the night sky to conclude to festivities.
