The Rhea Family YMCA opened in 1981 and in the same year, kicked off swimming lessons to all who wished to learn the basic fundamentals that a lot of people take for granted, because after all, not everyone knows how to swim.
In her seventh year as Rhea YMCA program director, Renee Shipley stated the YMCA offers swimming lessons every summer from age 6-month-old up to teenagers, and even up to adults.
