Dayton American Legion Post 100 Seeks Volunteers — The Dayton American Legion Post 100, needs volunteers to set flags on veterans’ graves. Boy Scouts, Girls Scouts, Sunday School Classes, and veterans are all welcome. Please report to the American Legion Hall on First Avenue in Dayton at 7 a.m. each Sunday in May, for a free “Thank You” breakfast. Flags and info will be provided. Dayton American Legion Auxiliary Post 100 Children’s Poppy Poster Contest — The American Legion Auxiliary Post 100 will host a Poppy Poster Contest for kindergarten through 12th-grade children. An instruction sheet for the contest is available at ArtCrafters on Market Street in downtown Dayton. Deadline for entries to be submitted is June 1. Winners will be chosen is each age group on June 2.
Fly-In, Drive-In Breakfast (5/25) — The Civil Air Patrol will host a breakfast from 8 to 11 a.m. at the Mark Anton Municipal Airport on Saturday, May 25. The all-you-can-eat cost is $6 for adults and $3 for children under 10. The event will be held rain or shine.
United Daughters of the Confederacy Meeting (5/25) — The John Quincy Adams Shaver Chapter of United Daughters of the Confederacy will meet at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 25, in Dayton. Membership is open to women no less than 16 years of age who are blood descendants, lineal or collateral, of men and women who served honorably in the Army, Navy or Civil Service of the Confederate States of America as well as those who gave material aid to the cause. Pierce Cemetery Decoration Day (5/26) — Decoration Day at Pierce Cemetery will be held Sunday, May 26. Donations for the upkeep of the cemetery can be made by mailing a check to Howard L. Taylor, 228 Third Ave., Dayton, TN 37321.
Decoration Day at Pleasantview Cemetery (5/26) — Decoration Day at Pleastantview Cemetery will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, May 26.
Pelfrey Family Reunion (5/26) — The Pelfrey family will hold a reunion at 1 p.m. on Sunday, May 26, at Valley Grove Baptist Church. Friends and family are invited to attend.
Dayton American Legion Auxiliary Post 100 Poppy Drive (5/27) — Volunteers for the Dayton American Legion Auxiliary Post 100’s “Poppy Drive” will be accepting donations for a poppy at 11 a.m. on Monday, May 27, at the Rhea County Courthouse. Proceeds will be used to support local veterans programs.
Walden’s Ridge Community Center Dinner & Meeting (5/28) — The Walden’s Ridge Community Center will host a Pot-Luck Dinner and Informational Meeting on Tuesday, May 28, at 6 p.m. Guest speakers will make presentations at the meeting Everyone is welcomed to come and enjoy good food and fellowship.
RCHS Class of 2003 Reunion (6/1) — Rhea County High School Class of 2003 is planning their 10-Year reunion on Saturday, June 1, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the DeBarge Winery Tasting Room in downtown Chattanooga. Tickets are $40 a person and need to be purchased prior to the event. Dillard Family Reunion (6/1) — The Dillard family will hold a reunion on Saturday, June 1, at Point Park in Dayton. Lunch will begin at 12:30 p.m. All family members are invited.
Yard Sale & Bake Sale for Realy For Life (6/1) — A Yard Sale and Bake Sale will be held from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, June 1, at Mega Pawn on Rhea County Highway. Proceeds will benefit the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life.
Benefit Dinner at Luminary Frostbite Volunteer Fire Dept. (6/1) — The Luminary Frostbite Volunteer Fire Dept. will host a benefit Fried Chicken Dinner on Saturday, June 1, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Cost is $5 for adults and $3 for children 11 years of age and younger. Proceeds will benefit the fire dept. Dinner will include a choice of two meats, three sides, one bread, one dessert and one drink for adults. For children, the dinner will include a choice of one meat, two sides, one bread, one dessert and one drink. Menu is subject to change from month to month. The fire department is located on Summer City Road, 13 miles north of State Route 30 or 11 miles on Shut-In Gap Road from Spring City.
Tops & Bottoms Womens Health Event (6/1) — “Tops and Bottoms: A Women’s Health Event” will be held on Saturday, June 1, beginning at 10 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Dayton. This free event is open to women of all ages and will include a fun and informative talk about breast and cervical health. Refreshments, give-aways and door prizes will be available.
Rhea County Academy Summer Camp (6/3 - 7/22) — Rhea County Academy will host an eight-week summer camp from June 3 through July 22. The camp will run from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the school with after-hours child care available until 6 p.m. For more information or to register, contact Rhea County Academy at 775-2826.
