Dayton American Legion Post 100 Seeks Volunteers — The Dayton American Legion Post 100, needs volunteers to set flags on veterans’ graves. Boy Scouts, Girls Scouts, Sunday School Classes, and veterans are all welcome. Please report to the American Legion Hall on First Avenue in Dayton at 7 a.m. each Sunday in May, for a free “Thank You” breakfast. Flags and info will be provided. Dayton American Legion Auxiliary Post 100 Children’s Poppy Poster Contest — The American Legion Auxiliary Post 100 will host a Poppy Poster Contest for kindergarten through 12th-grade children. An instruction sheet for the contest is available at ArtCrafters on Market Street in downtown Dayton. Winners will be chosen is each age group.
Clean Up Day at Dunn Cemetery (5/18) — A Clean Up Day will be held at Dunn Cemetery in the Luminary Community on Saturday, May 18. Those wishing to participate in the clean up are asked to bring equipment by 10 a.m.
Audrey Pack Memorial Library Community Yard Sale (5/18) — The Friends of the Audrey Pack Memorial Library in Spring City had rescheduled their community yard sale to Saturday, May 18, from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the library on W. Rhea Avenue. Booth space may be reserved at a cost of $8 on the hardtop or $6 on the lawn. Participants must furnish their own tables. The Friends will offer baked goods for sale and welcome donations of household items for their white elephant table.
Walden’s Ridge Community Center Benefit Auction and Chili Supper (5/18) — A Benefit Auction and Chili Supper will be held at the Walden’s Ridge Community Center, located at 5364 Dayton Mtn. Hwy. on Saturday, May 18, beginning at 4 p.m. There will be music, cake walks and an auction.
Wolf Creek Cemetery Decoration Day (5/19) — Decoration Day at Wolf Creek Cemetery will be held Sunday, May 19. Donations for mowing and upkeep of the cemetery can be made by calling 365-5585.
Paul D. Roddy Memorial Scholarship Application Deadline (5/20) — The deadline to apply for the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 100’s Paul D. Roddy Memorial Scholarship is Monday, May 20. The scholarship will be awarded to a graduating high school senior or college freshman whose mother, grandmother or great-grandmother is an active member of American Legion Auxiliary Unit 100. The scholarship will be awarded on June 15. Application forms may be picked up from Betty Roddy, 275 Main St., Dayton, TN 37321 Call 775-9547 for more information.
Fly-In, Drive-In Breakfast (5/25) — The Civil Air Patrol will host a breakfast from 8 to 11 a.m. at the Mark Anton Municipal Airport on Saturday, May 25. The all-you-can-eat cost is $6 for adults and $3 for children under 10. The event will be held rain or shine.
United Daughters of the Confederacy Meeting (5/25) — The John Quincy Adams Shaver Chapter of United Daughters of the Confederacy will meet at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 25, in Dayton. Membership is open to women no less than 16 years of age who are blood descendants, lineal or collateral, of men and women who served honorably in the Army, Navy or Civil Service of the Confederate States of America as well as those who gave material aid to the cause. Pierce Cemetery Decoration Day (5/26) — Decoration Day at Pierce Cemetery will be held Sunday, May 26. Donations for the upkeep of the cemetery can be made by mailing a check to Howard L. Taylor, 228 Third Ave., Dayton, TN 37321.
Decoration Day at Pleasantview Cemetery (5/26) — Decoration Day at Pleastantview Cemetery will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, May 26.
RCHS Class of 2003 Reunion (6/1) — Rhea County High School Class of 2003 is planning their 10-Year Reunion on Saturday, June 1, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the DeBarge Winery Tasting Room in downtown Chattanooga. Tickets are $40 a person and need to be purchased prior to the event. Dillard Family Reunion (6/1) — The Dillard family will hold a reunion on Saturday, June 1, at Point Park in Dayton. Lunch will begin at 12:30 p.m. All family members are invited.
Rhea County Academy Summer Camp (6/3 - 7/22) — Rhea County Academy will host an eight-week summer camp from June 3 through July 22.
