Rhea County Volunteers in Medicine Clinic — The Rhea County Volunteers In Medicine (VIM) Clinic is a free medical clinic for the uninsured residents of Rhea County. The clinic is open on Thursday evenings at 5:30 p.m. and is located at the Dayton Specialty Center (next to the old hospital building). Call 775-0609 for an appointment or information.
Domestic Violence Support Group Meeting — A domestic violence support group will meet each Tuesday evening from 6:15 to 7:15 p.m. The support group, which is offered by the Rhea County Domestic Violence Prevention Council, gives survivors of domestic violence, sexual abuse/assault and teen dating abuse a safe and confidential environment to receive support, guidance and education. The meeting is free and childcare is provided. For questions or further information call 775-4514.
Fitzgerald Family Reunion (5/9) — Descendants of Albert and Barbara Hartbarger Fitzgerald will meet together on Thursday, May 9, at the Salem Baptist Church Outreach Center. A catered meal will be served at 6:30 p.m. Family members and friends are invited to contact Joann Tilley at 423-779-4671 to make meal reservations.
Daughters of the American Revolution Meeting (5/9) — The Rhea-Craig Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution will meet on Thursday, May 9, at 3 p.m. in the downstairs conference room of the Sweetwater Library. Jane Yates will be the hostess for the meeting and present a report on April’s TSDAR State Conference held in Franklin, Tenn. Contact MArcia at 423-337-4004 for more information.
Spring City High School Alumni Reunion (5/11) — The alumni of Spring City High School will hold a reunion on Saturday, May 11 in the cafeteria of Spring City Middle School. Social hour begins at 5:45 in the school gymnasium with dinner following at 7 p.m. Any former students, faculty members, administrators and employees of Spring City High School are invited to attend. Membership dues are $2 per year and cost of the dinner is $14 per person. Those wishing to receive the annual newsletter, join the Alumni association or make reservation for the reunion are asked to contact Gayla Edington Elsea (72), secretary of the Spring City High School Association at 423-365-6771.
Watts Bar Yacht Club Meeting (5/11) — The Watts Bar Yacht Club will hold a meeting at Lakeside/Whites Creek Marina on Saturday, May 11. at 5 p.m. The club will be voting on new officers. Garrison Cemetery Decoration Day (5/12) — Decoration Day at Garrison Cemetery will be held Sunday, May 12. Everyone is encouraged to come.
Clean Up Day at Dunn Cemetery (5/18) — A Clean Up Day will be held at Dunn Cemetery in the Luminary Community on Saturday, May 18. Those wishing ot participate in the clean up are asked to bring equipment by 10 a.m.
Audrey Pack Memorial Library Community Yard Sale (5/24) — The Friends of the Audrey Pack Memorial Library in Spring City had rescheduled their community yard sale to Saturday, May 4, from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the library on W. Rhea Avenue. Booth space may be reserved at a cost of $8 on the hardtop or $6 on the lawn. Participants must furnish their own tables. The Friends will offer baked goods for sale and welcome donations of household items for their white elephant table.
Fly-In, Drive-In Breakfast (5/25) — The Civil Air Patrol will host a breakfast from 8 to 11 a.m. at the Mark Anton Municipal Airport on Saturday, May 25. The all-you-can-eat cost is $6 for adults and $3 for children under 10. The event will be held rain or shine.
United Daughters of the Confederacy Meeting (5/25) — The John Quincy Adams Shaver Chapter of United Daughters of the Confederacy will meet at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 25, in Dayton. Membership is open to women no less than 16 years of age who are blood descendants, lineal or collateral, of men and women who served honorably in the Army, Navy or Civil Service of the Confederate States of America as well as those who gave material aid to the cause.
