Free Basic Introduction to Computer Class — Rhea County Adult Education will offer a free Basic Introduction to Computer class in early May. Those interested in registering are asked to call 775-7881 and leave their name and phone number.
Rhea County Republicans Meeting Rescheduled (5/2) — The Rhea County Republican Party Meeting scheduled for Thursday, May 2, has been postponed until Thursday, May 9, at 7 p.m. The meeting will be held at the Republican Party Headquarters at 1359 Railroad Street in Dayton. The Executive Committee of the Rhea County Republican Party will meet at 6:30 p.m. prior to the regular meeting.
Benefit Dinner & Auction for Leslie “Peanut” Cornett (5/3) — A Benefit Dinner and Auction for Leslie “Peanut” Cornett will be held on Friday, May 3, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Ag Center & Fairgrounds in Evensville. The dine-in or carry-out dinner will include a choice of BBQ with all the fixin’s or chili and hot dog. Price for the meal will be $10 which includes the meal, a dessert and a drink. Live entertainment throughout the evening will include performances by The Cox Family, The Cumberland Band and Danielle Smith. For more information, contact the UT Extension office at 775-7807.
Bryan College Music Department Spring Musical Showcase (5/3) — The Bryan College Music Department will present their Spring Musical Showcase on Friday, May 3, at 7:30 p.m. at Rudd Auditorium on the campus of Bryan College. The showcase will feature vocal and instrumental ensembles and faculty and student soloists. This event is free and open to the public.
Stinnett Family Reunion (5/4) — The Stinnett Family Reunion will be held at Washington Park in the Old Washington community on Saturday, May 4, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The reunion will be held at Wolf Creek Fire Hall in case of inclement weather.
Benefit Dinner at Luminary Frostbite Volunteer Fire Dept. (5/4) — The Luminary Frostbite Volunteer Fire Dept. will host a benefit Fried Chicken Dinner on Saturday, May 4, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Cost is $5 for adults and $3 for children 11 years of age and younger. Proceeds will benefit the fire dept. Dinner will include a choice of two meats, three sides, one bread, one dessert and one drink for adults. For children, the dinner will include a choice of one meat, two sides, one bread, one dessert and one drink. Menu is subject to change from month to month. The fire dept. is located on Summer City Rd., 13 miles north of State Route 30 or 11 miles on Shut-In Gap Rd. from Spring City.
2013 Young Artists Festival (5/3-31) — The 2013 Young Artist Festival will begin at Bryan College on Friday, May 3, with a competition of area music students. Finalists will compete on Saturday, May 4, at ArtCrafters where the winners will be chosen. In addition, a visual arts display of student artwork will be on display at ArtCrafters beginning on Saturday, May 4 and continuing until May 31.
Smyrna Cemetery Decoration Day (5/5) — Decoration Day at Smyrna Cemetery will be held Sunday, May 5. Those wishing to contribute to the upkeep of the cemetery may send their donations to Smyrna Cemetery Association, 1913 Pleasant Rd., Evensville, TN 37332.
Rhea County Democratic Committee Meeting (5/7) — The Rhea County Democratic Party will meet on Tuesday, May 7, at the Amigo Mexican Restaurant in Dayton at 6:30 p.m. for dinner with the meeting following at 7:30 p.m. For information contact Doris Roy at 365-2836 or Kathleen Garrison at 365-9048.
Fitzgerald Family Reunion (5/9) — Descendants of Albert and Barbara Hartbarger Fitzgerald will meet together on Thursday, May 9, at the Salem Baptist Church Outreach Center. A catered meal will be served at 6:30 p.m. Family members and friends are invited to contact Joann Tilley at 423-779-4671 to make meal reservations.
Spring City High School Alumni Reunion (5/11) — The alumni of Spring City High School will hold a reunion on Saturday, May 11 in the cafeteria of Spring City Middle School. Social hour begins at 5:45 in the school gymnasium with dinner following at 7 p.m. Any former students, faculty members, administrators and employees of Spring City High School are invited to attend. Membership dues are $2 per year and cost of the dinner is $14 per person. Clean Up Day at Dunn Cemetery (5/18) — A Clean Up Day will be held at Dunn Cemetery in the Luminary Community on Saturday, May 18. Those wishing ot participate in the clean up are asked to bring equipment by 10 a.m.
Audrey Pack Memorial Library Community Yard Sale (5/24) — The Friends of the Audrey Pack Memorial Library in Spring City had rescheduled their community yard sale to Saturday, May 4, from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the library on W. Rhea Avenue. Booth space may be reserved at a cost of $8 on the hardtop or $6 on the lawn. Participants must furnish their own tables. The Friends will offer baked goods for sale and welcome donations of household items for their white elephant table.
Fly-In, Drive-In Breakfast (5/25) — The Civil Air Patrol will host a breakfast from 8 to 11 a.m. at the Mark Anton Municipal Airport on Saturday, May 25. The all-you-can-eat cost is $6 for adults and $3 for children under 10. The event will be held rain or shine.

A hot dog fundraiser will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday, May 3, at the Rhea Richland Senior Neighbors Center, located at 241 Alabama Avenue in Dayton. Meal will include hotdogs, chili, slaw, dessert and drink for $4.
Steve Kelser, a volunteer with the SHIP program will be at Rhea Richland Senior Neighbors Center, located at 241 Alabama Avenue in Dayton on Tuesday, May 21, to help seniors with Medicare. Call Marilyn at 775-6776 to make an appointment.
