The first Saturday in March is always reserved for the University of Tennessee’s Annual Block and Bridle Round-Up Livestock and Meat Evaluation Contest. Rhea County 4-H members competed against teams from all over Middle and East Tennessee in the meat evaluation competition. The Senior High team consisted of Josh Lamb, Cole Wilson, Jason Schalk, Jonathon Schalk and Randy Reed, all from Rhea County High School. The team placed fifth overall, with Josh Lamb placing seventh as Overall High Individual.
The junior high individuals that participated included Georgia Sutton and Kyle Carr of Spring City Elementary. Kyle placed first in the Overall High Individual category and first in the Meat Evaluation category. Georgia placed third in the Overall High Individual category and second in Retail Meat Identification.
The Senior High Team will be competing at the State 4-H Meat Evaluation Contest on June 4 at UT-Knoxville.
