Charles Vernon “Chip” Hickey, 57, a resident of the Euchee Chapel community of Spring City, passed away Sunday, Nov. 10, 2013 at his home. He was born April 14, 1956, in Rockwood, Tenn. He graduated from Spring City High School in 1974 and later graduated from the Rets Technical School in Louisville, Kentucky. Chip was a retired Program Administrator with TVA Watts Bar Nuclear Facility and was formerly employed with La-Z-Boy. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles William Hickey and Edna Irene Gillespie Hickey; sister, Theresa Darlene Hickey-Pendergrass; paternal grandparents, John Wiley Hickey and Cleo Louise Thompson Hickey and maternal grandparents, Gail G. Gillespie and Bertha Edna Howell Gillespie.
Survivors include his sisters, Vanessa I. Hickey of Spring City and Rene’ Hickey (Charles) Wyatt of Dayton; brothers, William D. (Kimberly) Gillespie of Spring City and Stefan Hickey of Dayton; brother-in-law, Alvin U. Pendergrass of Spring City; sister-in-law, Tracy Hickey of Spring City; special niece and goddaughter, Charlee Swafford of Dayton; nieces, Erica Roberts of Dayton, Ashsha Hughes of Nashville, Tenn., Chanda Hickey of Spring City and Kailyn Hickey of Spring City; nephews, LaMar Pendergrass of Dayton, Marcus Pendergrass of Madison, Ala., Isaiah Gillespie of Spring City and Zachary Hamilton of Spring City; stepnephew, Bryson Wyatt of Crossville, Tenn.; several great nieces and great nephews; aunts, Eunice Rankin of Columbus, Ohio, Shirley (James) Oggs of Spring City and Sallie Mae Burum of Oak Ridge, Tenn.; uncles, Booker T. (Carolyn) Gillespie of Nashville, Tenn., Alvas (Pearlie) Gillespie of Abilene, Texas, Curtis Gillespie of Dallas, Texas, Clarence Moore of Decatur, Tenn. and Walter Jones of Townsend, MD and special friend, Rev. Annette Warren of Virginia.
Family and friends will meet on Friday, Nov. 15, at 2 p.m. in the Gillespie/Euchee Cemetery in Spring City for graveside services and interment with Rev. Annette Warren officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the Gillespie/Euchee Cemetery, 166 Fairview Drive, Spring City, TN, 37381.
