Arthur M. “Mackie” Brown Jr., 74, died Sunday, Nov. 10, 2013, in Gainesboro, Tenn. while hunting with his grandson, Brad Collins.
A lifetime resident of Spring City, Mackie was the son of the late Arthur “Brownie” and Hugh Lee Lyle Brown Sr. He was a graduate of Spring City High School, Class of 1957, and served as president of the alumni association. Mackie retired after 27 years with the Y-12 Plant in Oak Ridge, Tenn. and was also a substitute driver for Rhea County schools. He was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Spring City, attended the Fellowship Class and drove the church bus. Mackie was an avid sportsman who loved hunting and fishing and was known as the “Duck Hunter”.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Rev. Denzel “Denny” Brown.
Survivors include his wife, JoAn Collins Brown of Spring City; daughters Gina (Jeff) McDaniel and Amy Brown Kilbane both of Spring City and Stephanie (Wayne) Smith of Anderson, S.C.; stepdaughters, Becky Roberts of Port Neches, Texas and Vicky (David) Rodda of Dayton; stepson, Scott Roberts of Nederland, Texas; brother, Ronald Brown of Spring City; 16 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Nov. 13, at 2 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Spring City with Rev. Brian Price officiating. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will follow in the Spring City Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Vaughn Funeral Home.
