Herscle Claude “Joe” Higgins, 73, of Dayton Mountain, died Sunday, Nov. 3, 2013, at his home on Dayton Mountain. He was born June 1, 1940, in Hamilton County, Tenn. to the late Ben S. and Ettie Mae Gentry Higgins. He was also preceded in death by two grandchildren, Christy Heard and Nicole Higgins; brothers, Thomas Higgins, William Higgins and Arnold Higgins and sister, Martha Cameron.
He was a retired truck driver from Shaw Transport. He loved to mow his yard.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Shirley Turner Higgins of Dayton Mountain; son, Bobby Joe Higgins of Dayton Mountain; three daughters, Dianne (Lloyd) Barnette of Sale Creek, Tenn. and Christine (David) Price and Gale (Kelly) King all of Dayton Mountain; two brothers, Ben S. (Myra) Higgins of Soddy-Daisy, Tenn. and Robert (Sherry) Higgins of Hixson, Tenn.; one sister, Edna (J.L.) Bice of Hixson, Tenn.; nine grandchildren, Melanie and Miranda Barnette of Sale Creek, Tenn., Scotty and Brandon Heard of Dayton, Samantha and B.J. Higgins of Hixson, Tenn., Forest Williams of Rossville, Ga., Emily and Logan King of Dayton Mountain and seven great-grandchildren, Brandalyn, Carley, Dillion, Desiree, Evan, Bailey and Haley.
Funeral services for Joe will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Vanderwall funeral Home with Rev. Paul Daniels officiating. He will be laid to rest in Rhea Memory Gardens.

The family is being served by the Vanderwall Funeral Home in Dayton where they will receive friends Monday after 3 p.m.
