George Albert Morgan, 94, passed away Thursday, Aug. 8, 2013, at his home in Soddy-Daisy, Tenn. Albert was the youngest of nine siblings of parents, George and Mary Morgan of Dayton, all of whom predeceased him. His wife, Margaret L. Morgan; daughter-in-law, Angie Morgan and two great-great-grandchildren also preceded him in death.
Albert was one of the “greatest generation.” He served in the United States Army from 1942 to 1945, participating in the campaigns in Italy, France and Germany. He was awarded three Bronze Stars for his courage. After the war, Albert drove, for 25 years, and was part owner of the Cherokee Bus Lines from Soddy to Chattanooga. He was then a truck driver for Chemical Leamon until his retirement in 1984. After his retirement, he and his wife of 72 years, Margaret, traveled the U.S. and made friends for more than twenty years. They spent most winters in Hawaii or Florida.
Albert is survived by his six sons, Benny (Cheryl), Dennis (Dorothy), Johnny, Cecil (Judy), George (Lynne) and Mitchell Morgan all of Soddy-Daisy and Hixson, Tenn.; thirteen grandchildren who lovingly called him Papaw; sixteen great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday and after noon Sunday at the Williamson and Sons Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 11, at Williamson & Sons Funeral Home with Reverend Mike Manning officiating. Burial will follow at Buttram Cemetery in Dayton with military honors.
