Lt. Col. Jack A. Wolfe, retired U.S. Air Force, 82, died Wednesday, April 10, 2013, in Clearwater, Fla.
Born in Athens, Ohio, he was the son of the late Alton D. Wolfe and Wanda P. Wolfe. He was a graduate of Morris Harvey College in Charleston, W.V. Lt. Col. Wolfe had a 23-year career in the U. S. Air Force as a pilot, flying various aircraft such as rescue planes in Alaska, KC-135 tanker refueling aircraft and others, as well as serving in Vietnam. He earned many awards and medals such as the Distinguished Flying Cross, Joint Services Commendation Medal, Bronze Star with multiple clusters and many others.
Lt. Col. Wolfe worked for 10 years as the production manager at the Norton Plant in Soddy-Daisy, Tenn. He was a loving father and family man. An avid and excellent golfer, he also enjoyed fishing, woodworking and watching sports. He was an engaging storyteller and had many interesting stories to tell. Lt. Col. Wolfe lived a full life, had many friends and will go on to be with Jesus. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Spring City.
Lt. Col. Wolfe was preceded in death by his wife of 46 years, Carolyn Wolfe and son, Steven B. Wolfe.
He is survived by his companion of 14 years, Betty Tucker, of Palm Harbor, Fla.; two daughters, Sherry Wolfe Clevenger of Oak Ridge, Tenn., and Cindy Tucker of Orlando, Fla.; granddaughters, Carolyn Elizabeth Clevenger of Wilmore, Ky. and Meagan B. Wolfe of Columbia, S.C.; brother, Gary S. Wolfe; nephews, David S. Wolfe of Evans, Ga. and Lt. Col. Kevin Wolfe of Warner Robins, Ga.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 17, at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Vaughn Funeral Home with Rev. Ed Langham Jr. and Rev. Linda Springer officiating. Interment will follow in Spring City Cemetery with full miltary honors.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, April 16, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Arbor Day Foundation.
