James Preston Morgan, 67, of Dayton, died at his home Sunday morning, Dec. 29, 2013. He was born in Dayton on Nov. 27, 1946, the son of the late Jack and Lorene Dotson Morgan. He is preceded in death by his two brothers, Jackie Morgan and Larry Morgan.
Jim lived in the Sale Creek/Dayton area all of his life and was a graduate of Rhea Central High School. He served his country with the US Army in Germany and retired from the Boilermakers Local 454. He was of the Church of God faith.
He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Lynda Thomas Morgan of Dayton; two sons, James Eric (Regina) Morgan of Bledsoe County, Tenn. and Jason Morgan of Sale Creek, Tenn.; stepson, John (Stefanie) Whitt of Bakewell, Tenn.; stepdaughter, JoAnna Kutil of Minnesota; brother, Steve (Alison) Morgan of Georgia; sister, Vicki (Jim) Silcox of Dayton; nine grandchildren, Jessica (Jesse) Goins, Austin Morgan, Christy Poe, Karin Alley, Chandler Johnson, Lily Whitt, Megan Whitt, BJ Burton and Kristen Burton and with six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services with military honors for Jim will be held Monday at 7 p.m. in the chapel of Vanderwall Funeral Home with his brother-in-law, Rev. Jim Silcox officiating. He will be laid to rest in Rhea Memory Gardens Tuesday at 11 a.m.
