Jay C. Hassler, 72, died Monday, Oct. 7, 2013 at Erlanger Medical Center in Chattanooga.
A lifetime resident of this area, Jay was the son of the late Paul and Susan Reed Hassler. He retired from Norfolk Southern Railway after 27 years of service. Jay was a member of the Spring City Church of Christ.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Laford Hassler and James D. “Jess” Hassler.
Survivors include his wife, Peggy S. Hassler of Spring City; daughters, Marsha Bean of Crossville, Tenn., Angie Mergen of Ooltewah, Tenn. and Kristie Hassler of Spring City; son, John Paul Hassler of Crossville, Tenn.; sister, Nonavee Darlene Boling of Seattle, Wash.; brothers, Doyle Clayton Hassler of Dayton, Ohio, Lynn Condon Hassler of Herbertsburg, Tenn., Paul Hassler Jr. of Spring City and Avery Thomas Hassler of Crossville, Tenn.; several grandchildren; two great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, Oct. 10, at 7 p.m. in the chapel of Vaughn Funeral Home with Rev. Ronnie Phipps officiating. Interment will be Friday, Oct. 11, at 11 a.m. in the Reed Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Vaughn Funeral Home.
