Thomas H. Matney, 70, of Pikeville, Tenn., passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2013.
Tom was a Godly man, and was of the Church of God faith. He was a logger by trade. Some of Tomís favorite hobbies were fishing, hunting, training mules, spending time with family and attending singings. He was also a four-time state grand champion in rabbit hunting. He was a member of the United Kennel Club.
Tom was born in Truman, Ark., on Feb. 28, 1943 to the late Melburn and Maxine Matney. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Doug, Ronnie, Donnie and Johnny Matney and a sister, Barbara Matney.
He is survived and will be missed by his wife, Thelma Matney; son, Thomas Corey (Kimberly) Matney; daughters, Crystal (Daniel) Schmidt of Crossville, Tenn., Joy (Leon) Presley and Charity (Scott) McCloud; brothers, Gary (Diane) Matney of Truman, Ark. and Mike Matney of Tallahassee, Fla.; sisters, Doris (Boyd) Holloway of Rock Island, Wash. and Sandra Baker of Crossville, Tenn.; 19 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and a host of special friends and singing buddies.
A Celebration of Tomís life will be held in the chapel of Pikeville Funeral Home on Saturday Oct 5, at 10 a.m. with Bro. Hubert Thurman and Bro. Andy Smith officiating. The family will receive friends from 1 to 8 p.m. on Thursday and noon to 8 p.m. on Friday. Burial will be in the Collier Cemetery.
