Fred W. Cunningham Sr., 92, died Saturday, Aug. 17, 2013, at Parkwest Medical Center in Knoxville, Tenn.
Born in Rhea County, Fred was the son of the late Boog and Bertha Boles Cunningham. He was a retired steamfitter with Local #43 working for TVA–Watts Bar. Fred served his country in the U. S. Army during World War II. He was member of St. Clair Baptist Church and a 50-year member of Rhea Springs Lodge #310 F. & A.M.
Fred was preceded in death by his first wife, Gertie McDaniel Cunningham and his second wife, Pauline Carroll Cunningham; stepdaughter, Pat Frazier; brothers, Lloyd, Morgan and Frank Cunningham and sisters, Mabel Burns, Laura Houston, Eulah Agee, Frances True, Lois McCuiston, Reva Houston and Lucille Cunningham.
Survivors include his sons, Stanley (Carolyn) Cunningham of Rockwood, Tenn. and Everett (Mildred) Powers and Wilson (Margaret) Cunningham both of Spring City; daughters, Jean (George) Waldo and Sue Smith both of Spring City and Myra Byrd of Cleveland, Tenn,; brothers, George Cunningham of Spring City and Joe (Winnie Sue) Cunningham of Rockwood, Tenn.; sisters, Gladys Ledford of Rockwood, Tenn. and Betty Cole of Greenville, S.C.; 19 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren and several and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Aug. 20, at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Vaughn Funeral Home with Rev. Jake Fisher officiating. Burial will be in the Spring City Cemetery with military honors. The family will receive friends Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
